Phil
I have fitted my X/flow alternator on the other side for my the Zetec conversion, it is now mounted on the bracket supplied with nylon bushes, the top is secured on the adjuster which is nylon and now I have no dashboard light with the ignition on. Earthing the alternator body to the chassis gets my light working? I have four connections at the back of my Valeo alternator Thick brown wire B+ to battery positive Thick brown wire goes towards the dashboard brown and yellow wire D+ to dashboard light Another thin wire to battery positive B+ Any ideas please X/FLOW 1700 DD 1990 ROAD USE ONLY..SO FAR
philwaters
Phil, when I fitted my alternator I used the Raceline mounts which are/were rubber bushed to help with the life. What I had to do was to fit an earthing strap down to the nearest engine mount to provide an earth for the alternator. I just fitted it under the head of one of the pivot bolts, so that it had continuity with the alternator body. Hope that fixes your problem. Phil
Thank you Phil, I will make one up at work tomorrow. My next question 😬 Could I use the old coil positive wire for power to the ECU rather than using the ignition switched live? I.Mupferit
As Phil W says, the alternators must be earthed separately and yes you can use the switched live to the old coil to power the ECU. Phil
7 inch long earth cable now fitted, I used one of the spare holes on the engine block and a new stainless steel bolt, light shining bright. Thanks. X/FLOW 1700 DD 1990 ROAD USE ONLY..SO FAR
