k80rum
I was having a chat last night with John Cobb, over his turbo-blade Westfield (web site linky) when the topic of carbon fibre came up. I mentioned I was toying with the idea of a carbon fibre airbox, to get induction noise down a bit. John has a mass of bespoke carbon parts on his car and he mentioned a technique for making them which I'd not hear of. The technique involves gluing polystyrene blocks together and then carving into the shape you want, then taping the shape up. The next step is to lay the twill (as it copes better with compound curves) CF over the top and applying the resin. Once dry, the last step is to use acetone to melt the polystyrene out. For one-off components this seems a reasonably attractive idea (more in terms of experimentation than in cost-saving) Has anyone tried making their own carbon-fibre? RiF (now RiS 😬) I'm only thinking about one-off parts that aren't in your catalogue.. knowley
There aren't many parts not in RiF's catalogue? I ordered some stuff yesterday and apparently the parts not for sale at the moment are being made ready for production -which leaves the headlights and not much else Looking forward to receiving my order 😬 Edited by - knowley on 13 Jun 2007 09:27:
k80rum
Agreed Knowley - I'm eyeing up the CF exterior skins at the mo 🥰 - there's no CF airbox for a K series with inboard suspension tho 😬 Darren E Website K80RUM and Emerald maps library Superlight R #
Tom_C
A mate of mine has made a lot of carbon stuff for his Fury, some of it with prepreg carbon. Have a look here under Furybird II BTW please give generously to Bundle's Big Charity Walk for Asthma research here Ta.
