Fitting a Shift-I

PhilS

Recommended Posts

I've ordered a Shift-I unit for my car ('02 Roadsport 160 SV with standard dash/dials) and wondered if anyone had any advice about fitting it, bearing in mind that I'm fairly clueless. Plan to do this next weekend assuming the weather holds up.

Looks like there's only three wires - any idea what I connect these to? The webpage doesn't have any info for Caterhams - assume I need to find three wires from the mass of spagetti under the dash and solder the appropriate Shift-I wires to them but how do I locate these wires?

I guess I also need to get the wires from behind the windscreen to under the dash and was hoping to use the hole that must already be there for the wires to the heated windscreen. Is it quite easy to loosen the windscreen to do this?

Any advice would be most welcome.

Cheers,

Phil.

The Shift-i comes with connectors already attached and these certainly won't fit through the heated screen grommets. I drilled a new hole central on the scuttle to feed both the shift-i and the cycle computer.

In terms of connections, you need a switched live, an earth and a tacho feed. There should be one of each drifting around behind the dash if you can find them.

Earth is black, switched live is green, and the tacho feed I think is white with black stripe.

BTW please give generously to Bundle's Big Charity Walk for Asthma research here Ta.

Cheers
