Das Posted August 9, 2006 Posted August 9, 2006 Finally got my Zetec Blacktop in the Chassis , however now have a few questions / problems. 1) Top lip of cam cover ( where cam belts runs ) touches the nose cone , this lip doesn't seem to appear on the older silver top engines and the cam belt covers are normally missing which would stick out about as much , I could cut say 5-10mm off and it would miss , has anybody else had the same problem ? 2) The carbs don't quite line up with the hole in the bonet ( too low ) , I don't know how close they normally are , I could either slightly adjust the engine mounts e.g fit washers one side and remove some metal on the other side or it may be the inlet manifold I have , mines the Dunnel and not the racleine version ( the engine mounts are raceline ). 3) Fitting the alternator / idler pulley , what alternator are people using + how have they mounted the idler pulley / where have you got the parts from ( any pictures would be great ). Sorry for the long post / lots of questions.
ChrisHawkins Posted August 11, 2006 Posted August 11, 2006 Das, 1, I noticed this problem a while back when I changed from an aluminium rocker cover to the plastic black one. Although the basic shape of the cover is the same, the cam belt cover arrangement is different. I ended up using the old cam belt cover assembly and modifiying the black rocker cover to fit by removing part of the lip at the top. looking back at it is was a lot of work just to fit the later plastic cover. For you i would suggest cutting it if you can or changing the rocker cover and belt cover to the earlier alluminium type, but it might be better to concentrate on problem 2) before you look at this as raising the engine may change what you have to do. 2, I used the Dunnell manifold and engine mounts, and it all lined up normally, maybe there is a differance between the engine mounts 3, Again I used the Dunnell kit to mount the alternator below the carbs, I thought I would be able to use the old crossflow alternator but no such luck and I had to buy the alternator from Dunnell to match the kit, it all worked out more expensive than i had planned but it all fits nicely I can email some pictures if you like? Das Posted August 11, 2006 Author Posted August 11, 2006 I have emailed you direct , if you could send a couple of pictures it would be very helpful.
Tyrone Posted August 12, 2006 Posted August 12, 2006 For my silver top install we used Raceline for the mounts and the alternator and mounting kit. The air filters are a little lower than they were with the crossflow but still fit inside the cut out in the bonnet. The alternator mounting kit is a nice bit of kit, not particularly cheap but worth it for the piece of mind of getting everything lined through.
