PhilD Posted August 7, 2006 Posted August 7, 2006 Hi, Any suggestions where to take Se7en for wheel balancing in Kent or Southeast, have tried the local ATS and no improvement . Tyres are CR500 on 13" rims Cheers Phil C7 PCD
sjmmarsh Posted August 7, 2006 Posted August 7, 2006 Have you recently changed the tyres? It is possible for a wheel to be balanced, but still to cause vibration if it is not circular. If you think about it, you could balance a square wheel perfectly, but the ride would be a bit bumpy! Try jacking the car up and looking at the wheel as it spins to see if it is out of true. A few mm is no worry, but anything more and it may be worth reseating the tyre. Steve
Graham Perry Posted August 7, 2006 Posted August 7, 2006 Has the bead fully blown out and seated correctly on each tyre ? I had a tyre on a tintop that wouldn't balance because of that a few years ago, superficially it looked okay.
PhilD Posted August 7, 2006 Author Posted August 7, 2006 Thanks for replies, I should have explained that the tyres have done nearly 4,000 miles and until a few weeks ago the steering was perfectly stable I've just checked both front tyres and suspect they need re-seating....OK.... so they are not quite square but they are not quite round either 😬 Any more ideas are most welcome Cheers Phil C7 PCD Edited by - PhilD on 7 Aug 2006 15:29:22
Jorgen Posted August 7, 2006 Posted August 7, 2006 Quite common on tintops to experince steering vibration if the wheel alignment is knocked out i.e. front wheels does not run with the same (and correct) toe in/out. This has of course nothing to do with the balance of the tyre. Could this be your problem? Jorgen
