Gambo Posted August 3, 2006 Posted August 3, 2006 I am thick 🤔(retorical question ) or is changing the springs on Nitrons a pain. I got them and was very pleased to see the body of the damper mounts to the chassis and the piston end to the wishbone. Great I thought, now less unsprung weight, plus easy change of springs.Just whip out the bottom bolt slaken the spring platform and remove lower damper plat form. Spring fall off bottom. but NO AFAI can see you have to remove the top mountain at the chassis ( a real pain on a pre '96 chassis) and undo spring platform remove and take spring over the top of damper . I am being stoopid 🤔 or I am correct in my thoughts 🤔  RED 2.0 HPC
Jaseb Posted August 4, 2006 Posted August 4, 2006 It's normal when removing springs from dampers to take them off over the rod end. I can't think how you'd do it any other way, it's a damper off the car job
Unclefester Posted August 4, 2006 Posted August 4, 2006 It's normally a piece of pi55....unbolt the shock, stand it fat end down in a vice, undo whatever clamps the spring platform into position (often a grubscrew or 2 into the spring platform threads) then *idea* using a pair of rubber gloves just turn the spring....this will in turn move the platform on its threads (assuming you have sprayed WD40 on the threads on the shock body.) Before you start dismantling, check how many threads are exposed (ie the position of the spring platform) so you can replace in the same position. When you have moved the adjustable platform enough to remove the spring tension it's easy to slip it out of the seating as it's slotted to allow this. But the gloves are the trick. Rubber allows you to grip, used to be called a 'viney bone' in the olden days of steam......we (err ....THEY)used to do the same thing with a bit of inner tube, but gloves work better. The washing up kind which feel a bit sticky are best.  Edited by - Unclefester on 4 Aug 2006 22:34:16
