PAUL MARRIOTT Posted August 2, 2006 Posted August 2, 2006 Tried to connect to my Emerals ECU last night but kept getting a not connected / not powered up message. But the ECU was powered and the connections made (physically anyway) with a good cable. The only thing that I've done since the last time I connected is have the lap top up dated to XP and had to reload the Emerald software. Any thoughts? Getting a bit desperate - need to adjust or sort tickover and fettle the mixture for MOT on friday. Paul M
Jason Plato Posted August 2, 2006 Posted August 2, 2006 on one version of the software a "not connected to port 1 " or some such warning always came up and you could simply press "OK" and carry on - it was a bug . if the ecu is powered up and the LED lights are on then it would appear that the problem is with your laptop ☹️ here is C7 TOP South Wales AO
PAUL MARRIOTT Posted August 2, 2006 Author Posted August 2, 2006 Hello Dave Laptop seems to be OK and reports that the comms port is working OK. I was wondering if there is and issue with Windows XP. Paul M
PAUL MARRIOTT Posted August 2, 2006 Author Posted August 2, 2006 Oh and I don't think that it's the bug never had it before and even when I press OK it doesn't read the ECU. ☹️
rgrigsby Posted August 2, 2006 Posted August 2, 2006 XP Pro works fine here, I've run XP, XP Sp1 and XP Sp2 without any problems with the Emerald software. Is there anyone else nearby with either another laptop or another Emerald/cable that you could try with? Rob G www.SpeedySeven.com
PAUL MARRIOTT Posted August 2, 2006 Author Posted August 2, 2006 Thanks Rob, thats the XP worry out the way and I'm speaking nicely to our IT division ref a lead to make sure that its not that, although I doubt it as its in good condition. Is there any history of joint failures inside the ECUs? Paul M
oilyhands Posted August 2, 2006 Posted August 2, 2006 Have you got an Emerald cable? a stock RS232 or null modem cable is not the same... The port choice dialogue box is not a bug, it is simply giving the user a choice of which COM port to use with the default being the first that the BIOS reports, it is a feature of the Comms library used by Karl. Oily
PAUL MARRIOTT Posted August 2, 2006 Author Posted August 2, 2006 Hello Dave Yep I've an Emerald cable but won't bother chasing my IT dIV for a compatable lead now. Karl has just advised that the problem most likely lies with my PC, I've also got a "ie_Open - device already open" which apparently means that another programme is using the comms port - he's given me a couple of pointers, so I'll be busy scratching my head tonight No doubt if I resolve the ECU issue I'll b*gger something else up. Paul M
oilyhands Posted August 2, 2006 Posted August 2, 2006 If the Bios says it's already open then you have some rogue application floating around that is trying to use it. Have a look at the process table.. Oily
PAUL MARRIOTT Posted August 2, 2006 Author Posted August 2, 2006 Will do. Gawd I hate IT stuff, think I'll get my daughter to have a look at it for me. Paul M
mav Posted August 2, 2006 Posted August 2, 2006 look for something along the lines of wecdscomm in the process table. Kill that process and it should be fine.
PAUL MARRIOTT Posted August 2, 2006 Author Posted August 2, 2006 BIOS, WEBCDSCOMM, PROCESS TABLE right, got that
Mick Day Posted August 2, 2006 Posted August 2, 2006 Do you run Active Sync? That grabs hold of the port & won't let go.
PAUL MARRIOTT Posted August 2, 2006 Author Posted August 2, 2006 BIOS, WEBCDSCOMM, PROCESS TABLE right, got that
PAUL MARRIOTT Posted August 2, 2006 Author Posted August 2, 2006 Opps, told you I was no good at IT stuff. 😳 Mick, not that I know of...
Mick Day Posted August 2, 2006 Posted August 2, 2006 For anyone who does use Active Sync for synchronising with PDA's & phones this might be usefull here
Dobuy Posted August 2, 2006 Posted August 2, 2006 Yep I had the activesync problem, nothing a quick "ctrl alt del" won't fix Duratec SV, built in Dubai Edited by - Dobuy on 2 Aug 2006 13:29:43
