Robin, TADTS! im afraid, just buy some adhesive pads from halford or similar for a couple of quid, or better still dump the windscreen and put an aero screen on 😬

Adhesive pads are unreliable. Clean the glass with meths, the same for the mirror, buy GlassBond (Loctite) at some outrageous price per ml, apply 2 drops and clamp in place in daylight. Release the clamps as long as possible afterwards - ideally the next day.

*arrowup* I've been completely unable to get a rear view mirror to work on my aeroscreen. (I have a smoked one for Twinkerbelle, our old TC Lotus/Caterham)

Whatever I do, if I stick it on it is at a strange angle, or rammed up against the bodywork. so I can't see anything but paint....I'm frankly at my wits end with it all. *eek* *eek*

What's more, the SupaGlu makes a terrible mess on the perspex. *mad* *mad*

What would Colin Chapman have done I wonder? *wink*

NICE PLATE!!!

Sorry to disagree, but do not use meths as it leaves a coating on the glass.

Do not use super goo as this dries and cracks and the mirror falls off.

Do not use mirror bond as this is for heavy mirrors with a removable metal base, you will not hold a mirror in place for 15 minutes as suggested.

Use a quality glass cleaner [household glass cleaner on the inside only].

Remove all traces of the old pad of the mirror base.

Stick new pad to mirror base.

Use a hair drier dryer to warm the pad as you stick it on, do not do this indoors and run out to the car, this will not work.

Leave the mirror for about 5 to 10 minutes then adjust, job done.

I have fixed my mirror lower down the screen as this does not interfere with vision on left hand corners.

Sorry Phil I agree with batteredoldsupersport I have done numorus fixings with the glass bond and it always works as long as both are cleaned, I tink the timing is about 60 secs but I normally hold it on for a couple of mins.

I'm fairly sure that the mirror on my 68 S3 is the original (JWW alert) and it uses a vacuum cup tightened up with a nut on the mirror shaft. So Chapman used vacuum which must be the lightest form of adhesive!

Another *thumbup* for mirrorbond route.

But, dont pay £5 at Halfaruds, go to Wilkinsons and buy the same thing for £1.50.

Mine's been on for over a year now with nae probs. I used isopropyl alcohol to clean the glass *thumbup*

I sell the things and I have fitted a fare few, just my opinion though.

For mirror to screen fixing, my method is - Black double sided sticky pad onto screen.

Don't even bother thinking the mirror will stay... The pad to glass will work but not pad to mirror.

Superglue on clean ali mirror mount surface press and hold / clamp in place over night to the sticky pad.

Works a treat.

Yes, being serious, *arrowup* I reckon the suction mirrors are very good. We do have one on the SV, and the other crafty thing is to put it well to the left of centre, that way you don't have that irritating blind spot where the mirror gets in the line of sight.

The small suction mirrors are ace.......Halfords, Redline, whatever.

Remember to lick your sucker first, of course *idea* *thumbup* *tongue*

I agree with the small suction Mirrors. *thumbup*

I find that vision is also better as the suction ones fit higher and are smaller so they don’t block your view as badly.

Yep get a suction mirror, even if you do get one to stick with sticky pads it will only get knocked off when you put your windscreen on the floor the wrong way up whilst fitting your aero *wink*

Don't the suction ones vibrate and blur the vision terribly?

Perhaps I have careful but I have never knocked the mirror off windscreen.

Or is that the hood had only been on once or twice and I've run aero's for 6 years of the 8 I've sevened.

Ed to say that this is Norman on Lynnes machine - she's playing some mindless game on mine!

For what it's worth I had a windscreen for 9 years and the mirror came of once - I knocked it off.

I remembered how we did it in the trade and cleaned the glass with acetate (nail varnish remover), warmed the glass with a hair dryer and stuck it on with a new pad. It's still on the screen although the screen hasn't been on the car for 5 years.

I suspect all the methods above work to the degree that it's not an issue.

My vacuum mounting doesn't vibrate at all once the nut is tightened to maximise the suction. The mirror is only about 4"X2" which means it is light and this may not be legal for a modern car.
Posted

Mine vibrates to the extent that I can't make out what's beheind me even when the sticky pad sticks!

I have one sticky pad left (CC supplied). I'll clean the screen with Isopropyl alchohol (used meths before) and warm the thing before trying one last time. If it falls off again I'll try something completely different. *smile*

All this talk of mirrors must have made ours a bit tetchy. Last week it lauched itself from the windscreen and into the passenger tillet. 😳 It wont be doing that again as its now firmly tie wrapped to our Roadsport rollcage, lets see it get out of that 😬

*idea* Mainly Red, apart from the bits that are Black. Piccies *idea*
