Ozzy Posted July 30, 2006 Posted July 30, 2006 It seems that one of my front shocks has blown it's seal, and deposited oil over my front wishbone. The car is currently fitted with adjustable bilsteins, and I'm looking for some guidance as to what to replace them with (obviously makes sense to replace the pair), for sensible money. I'd like to stick with adjustable type, car is 95% road use. I don't have a clue what the spring rating is on the ones I currently have. Suggestions please, as to type/rating for road use on front of car, and as I said, not silly money. Some idea of price for a pair would also be handy. Thanks, Oz. CageyH Posted July 30, 2006 Posted July 30, 2006 Another pair of Bilsteins? Avo's from Freestyle? Nitrons are silly money.
Ozzy Posted July 30, 2006 Author Posted July 30, 2006 No one got any ideas on spring rating for road use? Where to get them? Price? Any info would be appreciated. Oz. Still Shaking 6 speed 1600k Supersport
Simon.Rogers1 Posted July 30, 2006 Posted July 30, 2006 Depends on the quality of the shock/damping. Just for example sprint use AVO - 250/150 front rear. Ohlins - 200/120 I believe Nitrons run 225/125 For road use you may wish to take 10 - 20% off. However the sprint rates are more than adequate on the road when on minimum rebound settings.
Ozzy Posted July 30, 2006 Author Posted July 30, 2006 Just realised, I think I'm being a bit thick. I don't need to replace the whole lot, just the dampers themselves, don't I! Still Shaking 6 speed 1600k Supersport
Sheds Moderator Posted July 30, 2006 Posted July 30, 2006 Have you had a word with Freestyle Ozzy? They are the 7 suspension specialists and I am sure they would give you good advice.
Area Representative Richard Price Posted July 31, 2006 Area Representative Posted July 31, 2006 Why not put a "Wanted" add for a set of used standard Bilstein's? I'm sure there are quite a few folks that have "upgraded" to different dampers. You'll need to be know what you want though. What year is you chassis? Post 96 cars use longer front dampers, but wide track cars use the same dampers, but use an additional spacer that can be removed if your car is narrow track. Standard front springs are 150lbs/inch whilst the standard rears are progressive (but I can't remember the rates). I use my car on the road and for sprints and hillclimbs, and use standard springs and dampers - I would not rush into higher spring rates that many advocate. I know a couple of people who have recently reverted back to standard spring rates, who are quite happy with the change! Edited by - Richard Price on 31 Jul 2006 02:12:31
Mark Durrant Posted July 31, 2006 Posted July 31, 2006 Ozzy I have a set of Bilsteins complete with adjustable platforms and springs taken from my R500, covered just 6,500 road miles and are 6 years old. Drop an email to my profile or post on here if your interested. Mark D Comp Sec
