HELP

I have been messing about with this most of the afternoon. ☹️

The Clutch Master Cylinder is in place with 3/6 clearance between it and the Brake Master Cylinder.

I was stumped for a while on the hydraulic line till I decided that the slave has a tapered thread well its a very snug fit to make the seal, is this correct 🤔

Problem..... to make the Clutch Plate release both the peddle and slave adjustment are at their maximum take up adjustment and my foots flat on the floor.

The cause seems to be that the rubber on the slave compresses by 15-20mm before the arm moves. So I have added a number of washers between the Slave and the Bell Housing. This is still with both adjustments at maximum take up but has the bite point of the floor.

However, this no doubt means that the release bearing is permanently engaged rather than having a small clearance by the pressure of the Slave Rubber Dust Cover.

An alternative that I would like to avoid is to remove the Dust Cover and retain the washers.

As yet I have not installed the exhaust, oil and water as I want to make sure the clutch assemble is working correctly in case its an all out job again.

So checking the clutch bite point is by pushing the car in gear and using the clutch peddle.

I wanted to prove the Race 6 Paddle Fiction Plate has a large spline boss on one side and flat the other but unlike the old road clutch does not have one side marked flywheel. So I put it in with the flat side facing the flywheel. This made the boss quite close to the Race Pressure plate springs. However, the springs are a lot shorter than the Road Pressure Plate ones so I decided they moved VERY little. It looked as if it would fit either way round well just about and I could not prove it had clearance the other way round....

Still so far looks like I made the correct choice 🤔 but only getting the car going will prove that...

I will be later adding a stop for the Clutch Peddle when the cars going.

Might have found the answer in the archives

here

This says dump the Slave Cylinder dust cover then use penny washers as I have already done 😬

Still is it better to keep the dust cover and have the release bearing engaged with its minimum pressure 🤔

I also had a half domed nut left over this is the same diameter as the thread on the Slave Pull Rod but that write up implies use it on the extension between the Arm and the Long nut on the extension to the Slave Pull Rod but its the wrong thread size *confused* Still using a domed locking nut makes sense *confused* 🤔

When I built my car 3years ago lot's of trouble with clutch..Do you have the 4 or

5 inch adjustment rod under the dust cover . Also take up the slack with spacer

outside bellhous Try master cylinder ( bigger from caterham ) to produce more throw . last resort modify the peddle box/pedals

Hi Arnie

Thanks for the chat as discussed the rubber dust caps getting binned and I chase Caterham for the correct domed nut that fits the slave brass extension rod.

Hi Harold

yep have that bar its just that the slave dust cover is causing too much movement and I think the Race Pressure Cover has less depth than the road version so needs less length on the brass adjustment bar, or whatever *biggrin*
