Hi All

I need the accumulated knowledge of Blatchat to help me out here. I wish to change my original statrer ('99 SLR) over to Brise but I am not sure that it will fit. I have a 4-2-1 exhaust and the existing starter is VERY close to the #4 primary - thats probably why I get the dreaded "click" when its hot.

WIll the brise fit??????

Thanks in advance

Do a search and I think you'll find the answer. I fitted a Brise with the "old" 4-2-1 primaries (ie pre c.June 2005) and it fitted fine - the Caterham race starter at the time wouldn't fit, though I believe they now have a different design. There is a bit of fettling required in the Brise to ensure the innermost bolt which attaches the adaptor plate to the starter does not foul on the back of the flywheel - but pretty straightforward. The Brise fits because the solenoid hangs underneath the starter.

I found I had to get a new battery +ve lead made up as the relocated solenoid left the original somewhat stretched for my liking - but made up by a car audio shop for a minimal amount.

Thanks for the info. I expect the fettling but just wanted to check on the overall fit.

Spoke to Brise about the same issue, a couple of weeks ago. They told me their starter would fit with a bit of fetteling, but they also recommended I try their new starter with internal solenoid, which is the same one Cat are now stocking *cool* That one is a direct swap and no issues with the No4 primary on the 4:2:1 *thumbup* I haven't actually tried this theory yet.
