simonbell Posted July 22, 2006 Posted July 22, 2006 Quick query about oil level on a duratec with raceline wet sump. When I ffited the sump and filled with oil for the first time I noted the oil level after adding the 5L of oil. I noticed today when I checked the oil that when I pull the dipstick out for the first time the oil level was really low, every time I pulled it out after that it was at the level I had noted on the first fill. My gut reaction is that the first oil level was the actaul oil level and that subsequent readings are being influenced by oil in the dipstick tube..........would this be a reasonable asusmption? I`m using the std dipstick and tube by the way. Simon Bell - Caterham 7 Duratec R I`ve seen the future.....and it`s powered by duratec Check out the website here
I.Mupferit Posted July 22, 2006 Posted July 22, 2006 Oddly enough the dipstick on my Duratec with the Raceline wet sump does exactly the same. The first time you check it when cold it appears to be low but give it a wipe, replace it and check again and the level is back to where it should be.........every time Bizarre but I believe the higher mark on all subsequent checks to be the right one. simonbell Posted July 22, 2006 Author Posted July 22, 2006 Brent, glad its not just me.........it`s a bit weird isn`t it. I`ve sprung another oil leak, looks like it might be the front crank seal this time. Just cleaned it all up to assess how bad it is, it must have started at some point on our French trip earlier in the month........... Need to change by OP sender as well.........its getting erratic........still it has done 8000 miles which is probably a good innings for a Caterham OP sender 😬 Simon Bell - Caterham 7 Duratec R I`ve seen the future.....and it`s powered by duratec Check out the website here
