Ben_SS Posted July 17, 2006 Posted July 17, 2006 Are these a standard part I can pick up in a motor factors?
ewenm Posted July 17, 2006 Posted July 17, 2006 Should be, I've got one sat in a MG-Rover branded box at home. A good motor factor should have original or equivalent parts. E. Project BUMBLEBEE lives on!
CageyH Posted July 17, 2006 Posted July 17, 2006 Yes. I got a 82 degree one after a bit of a search through a book.
Sheds Moderator Posted July 17, 2006 Posted July 17, 2006 Top tip - drill a couple of 4mm holes in the thing so that you can bleed the system more easily and it's never really shut. OK, the car will warm up more slowly. Not really an issue.
Myles Posted July 17, 2006 Posted July 17, 2006 : Hmm, I'm not convinced... I've note had much problem bleeding my (heaterless) k - and all of the recent stats I've fitted already have a small (2mm-ish) hole. My current stat has a much larger hole with a bobble-valve and on a cool/cold day, the engine runs some 10-degrees cooler than the stat rating. Might just be a duff stat, opening too eagerly, but my suspicion is that the 'bleed' hole is allowing enough flow for the (rather efficient) Radtec to overcool the engine. davef Posted July 17, 2006 Posted July 17, 2006 Another data point - when I fitted my new engine I installed an 82 stat (from Eliseparts) . In this I drilled two 3mm holes. Very easy to bleed down (but then I have no heater), and the engine sits at 80C , even yesterday in the heat. It does take a little longer to warm up though. I have the standard Ali rad. Dave
Ben_SS Posted July 18, 2006 Author Posted July 18, 2006 cheers guys, i'm running a radtec and a heater additional holes for bleeding, or none for cooling?
Red SLR Posted July 18, 2006 Posted July 18, 2006 Ben - where are you in manchester? LeMans 2006 photos here
Red SLR Posted July 18, 2006 Posted July 18, 2006 To add, I would drill 2 small holes in it 3-4mm. 😬 LeMans 2006 photos here
