Anthony Posted June 21, 2006 Posted June 21, 2006 Well they have arrived. Not too sure about the colour ( gold) or whether the mechanism is truely legal, but having got them it seemed rude not to try and fit them. The units take EBC pads and should be a direct replacement. The trial fit has gone reasonably well, with new bolts ( cap heads needed ) and revised spacers. The bolts holding the hub needed reversed so that the head of the bolt for the hub carrier is on the inside and the nut closest to the disc. Next bit, see if the cable works...suspect I will need a therapist after the weekend ! Anthony Car is nearly ready, but I have be saying that for at least a year :-)
Anthony Posted June 21, 2006 Author Posted June 21, 2006 ManxSeven I will try and get some on Friday and mail you. They would be perfect on a Fireblade 😬 Anthony Car is nearly ready, but I have be saying that for at least a year :-)
Nifty Posted June 21, 2006 Posted June 21, 2006 Anthony, Can you send them to me too? They are supposed to be getting back to me to tell me when they're ready. No surprise I'm sure to say that I haven't heard a word. What do you mean when you say your not sure if the handbrake mechanism is legal 🤔 Keep off the straight and narrow 😬
Anthony Posted June 21, 2006 Author Posted June 21, 2006 Hi Nifty, Hi-Spec are nice people, but their delivery times are un-usual. Mine were ordered last week in Jan and arrived early June. I understand there is some debate as to whether the mechanism is fully mechanical as it may work on the hydrolic part of the brake mechanism. Naturally I know nothing of this when it comes to the MOT test.. Anthony Car is nearly ready, but I have be saying that for at least a year :-)
Myles Posted June 21, 2006 Posted June 21, 2006 ANthony - if they see a mechanical cable and can satisfy themselves that pulling the cable applies the brakes, I can't see how they can fail it. Who's to say exactly what is on the inside of any particular brake unit - unless they force you to drain the system and test the handbrake at that point... Project Scope-Creep is live... Anthony Posted June 22, 2006 Author Posted June 22, 2006 Thanks Myles, I am not too excited about it. The car has a limited slip diff so MOT rear brakes are always a subject of discussion. Anthony Car is nearly ready, but I have be saying that for at least a year :-)
Mike Biddle Posted June 22, 2006 Posted June 22, 2006 Anthony, as you know I've got these on my car and I can assure you that the handbrake operation/effectiveness is a major improvement over the standard rear caliper. Wonder why it took so long for delivery? Chris got mine in a week or two. Mike.
Nifty Posted June 22, 2006 Posted June 22, 2006 I shall be on the phone very shortly ❗ Keep off the straight and narrow 😬
Anthony Posted June 23, 2006 Author Posted June 23, 2006 Thanks Mike, nice to know. I am running std rear discs, I cannot afford those brilliant ones you have. Not sure if they differ slightly. Nifty, can you mail me your phone number and I will send over pics via mobile. Cannot find digi camera ☹️ Anthony Car is nearly ready, but I have be saying that for at least a year :-)
Petrolhead Posted June 23, 2006 Posted June 23, 2006 I would like to see some pics also please NE7Club Web Site R5 no 65 😬
Anthony Posted June 26, 2006 Author Posted June 26, 2006 Guys, apologies you will need to wait until Friday for the pictures, I got sidetracked ! Further set of spacers made up to help fit the calipers. Bolts on hub reversed to allow handbrake cable to fit. Caliper appeture for handbrake cable is too small ☹️ so this has been filled out to enable cable to go in. The existing solid brake hoses are now redundant, as the hose connection point is on the front as opposed to the rear of the caliper ( Think Automotive are making up a pair of special pipes for me ). So, nice product, but certainly not a direct replacement. Once I have them working I will prepare a fitting instruction list 😬 Anthony Car is nearly ready, but I have be saying that for at least a year :-)
Garibaldi Posted June 26, 2006 Posted June 26, 2006 Anthony Would be interested in some pics as well please... which of the Hi-Spec handbrake calipers do you have .. are they a replacement for the std steel caliper Caterham fit or the non-handbrake alloy APs? Gary
Anthony Posted June 26, 2006 Author Posted June 26, 2006 Hi Gary, Hi-Spec with handbrake facility. Should replace the std calipers but when was life that simple Anthony Car is nearly ready, but I have be saying that for at least a year :-)
