Peter T Posted June 19, 2006 Posted June 19, 2006 Today my car ran like a pig, firing on three cylinders. Seeing as the gearbox also has to come out for a rebuild, syncro gone on third it is timeed right. The R500 has serious reliability faults, also the clutch release bearing is shot. It has only covered 5000 miles. R500 Mango Madness
F355GTS Posted June 19, 2006 Posted June 19, 2006 You should buy a VX well somebody had to say it 😬 Mark

Anthony Posted June 21, 2006 Posted June 21, 2006 Pete, what a wind up, all fixable but a bit tedious. I am sure Phil can turn around the gearbox swiftly and add a couple of his magic tricks to make it even better. There must be a market for a reliable CRB ! Good luck with the repairs, sorry its in the middle of summer ☹️ Anthony Car is nearly ready, but I have be saying that for at least a year :-)
rj Posted June 21, 2006 Posted June 21, 2006 The CRB solution is here - I hope! It yet has to be tested. /regin
Dartmoor7 Posted June 22, 2006 Posted June 22, 2006 Did CC change supplier or spec for the CRB some time after 1994? My car is 12 years old, 32,000 miles, no CRB problem ever. Jerry Parker L7 SVN 1400 Supersport
F355GTS Posted June 22, 2006 Posted June 22, 2006 Jerry It was the manufacturer, INA, that moved production from Germany to Brazil, German ones appear to last forever, the Brazilian ones don't, not sure when production changed but I'd guess around 2001/2002 Caterham have now switched suppliers to SKF Mark
Dartmoor7 Posted June 22, 2006 Posted June 22, 2006 Thanks Mark. A lot of problems seem to be traceable to CC looking for cheaper parts. When I had 16" wheels I had to get a replacement which was not of the quality of the original set. Jerry Parker L7 SVN 1400 Supersport
Nifty Posted June 22, 2006 Posted June 22, 2006 Forgive my ignorance but what is that Regin? Keep off the straight and narrow 😬
Mark Durrant Posted June 22, 2006 Posted June 22, 2006 It looks like an hydraulic clutch to me. Mark D Comp Sec
rj Posted June 22, 2006 Posted June 22, 2006 Nifty, It's the only shiny bit of my car Apart from that Mark is correct. It's a VW integrated slave cylinder that I hope is up for the job. /r Growing old is mandatory - Growing up is optional
