old captain slow Posted June 19, 2006 Posted June 19, 2006 Just replaced both engine mounting rubbers as they had got past their sell by date (ie one side of engine had dropped so the exhaust was hitting the body). Decided to fit the VVC rh engine mount instead of the cowboy cut-down mount I had in place so that there was a proper mount in place and adequate clearance to the bonnet as opposed to just enough with the cowboy job. Of course I have now run into the plennum hits the cross brace problem as appearing on other threads. Called CC and the availability is several months so .... Do you think if I just squeezed the strut in a vice to give the required clearance for 3 and 4 inlet tubes this would have any issues? Alternatively I can just leave the cut down mounting in place. Any photos of the actual strut in a VVC car that I could have a look at? C7 CDW
John Howe Posted June 19, 2006 Posted June 19, 2006 David, if your strutt (I am assuming that is what you are referring to) is the removable type, then reposition it by using a longer bolt and placing it outside the two lugs that it normally locates between, but remembering to fill the vacated space in full with washers or spacer. This idea was suggested to me by Bruce at Arch... JH Deliveries by Saffron, the yellow 230bhp Sausage delivery machine
old captain slow Posted June 19, 2006 Author Posted June 19, 2006 The best ideas are always the most straight forward and easiest. Thanks. C7 CDW
John Howe Posted June 19, 2006 Posted June 19, 2006 Yes, I must admit to smiling when it was first put to me. My original question to Bruce had been "could he make me a strutt that had a bend in it" JH Deliveries by Saffron, the yellow 230bhp Sausage delivery machine
