zak Posted June 18, 2006 Posted June 18, 2006 Took the car back tonight to its garage across town and on starting up its misfiring. Keeps misfiring - driving it with low revs cos its cold and a short trip back to the garage most noticeable misfire on downchange blips of the throttle. Sounds like a Subaru! But really I am gutted. ☹️ as when I got back to the garage I popped the bonnet off and theres a little leak of fluid (doesnt feel oily) from the cylinder head to block junction in the region of the second piston. Cant see thats it run from anywhere else to it. Am I right in thinking this is a headgasket failure in its early stages? The oil is clean and not emulsified. The car has been going like a train lately so perhaps I have been giving it extra large and thats why? ☹️ Any suggestions of things to check or what I should do - likely cost and most sensible things to do while the head is off on extremely low (as in nil) budget. Would love to have the resources to do the exhaust cam and port the head but alas no. Thanks for any input. This time last year it was the gearbox, then a new de dion tube and now the headgasket. NEXT! 😬 Zak www.zak7.com
oilyhands Posted June 18, 2006 Posted June 18, 2006 Thst sort of leak wont cause a misfire. If it is a leak from the gasket then it doesn't indicate leakage from the cylinders but a small breach of the elastomer seal at the edge of the gasket. However, leaks from the water rail /head joint on the exhaust side of the engine can run along the gasket line and appear to be emananting from the gasket itself, check immediately under the rail joint for any coolant. zak Posted June 18, 2006 Author Posted June 18, 2006 Hi Dave, Thanks so much, for your rapid response. I will get my head under the bonnet first thing tomorrow and have a good look and report back. Still dont know why I have a misfire all of sudden though? Thanks Oily if the head comes off will get in touch re head work. 😬 😬 Zak www.zak7.com
Unclefester Posted June 18, 2006 Posted June 18, 2006 Leads? Plugs? Something as simple as a plug cap? I had a really irritating misfire on a BMW K series which turned out to be a little washer which had fallen down into the space between a fuel injector and the thing was causing an intermittent short circuit with the head...causing that injector to miss from time to time..... NICE PLATE!!! 😬 😬here *eek*
