Bilbo Posted June 17, 2006 Posted June 17, 2006 Hi All Well the engine is out clutch off and some photographs. Hope these work normally I mess them up and will edit Flywheel here Friction plate pressure plate side here Friction plate flywheel side here and here So where is the friction material 🤔 Well some here The resthere and here So looks like it just let go after wear and a high Rev start still its done less than 4000 miles. Still it was near instant The flywheel appears in good condition dispite the loss of metal on the springs so is the pressure cover 🤔 'Can you hear me running' ......... OH YES and its music to my ears 😬 😬 😬 1988 200 bhp, 146 ft lbs, 1700cc Cosworth BD? engineered by Roger King, on Weber's with Brooklands and Clamshell wings, Freestyle Motorsport suspension Edited by - bilbo on 17 Jun 2006 20:07:12

Bilbo Posted June 18, 2006 Author Posted June 18, 2006 Hi Dave Well yes and no. The clutch has done under 4000 miles. About 8 sprints and 2 track days most of the rest were motorway miles to and from the tracks. I suspect its been slipping a tad.  On the road I do not drop the clutch fast very often. There is no wheel spinning on the track and most changes are near clutch less out of town. In town just lip it in the accelerate so not much were then. So sign of oil in the bellhousing or on the clutch parts. So I would have hoped to get another couple of thousand miles at least. This makes me feel I need a heavier pressure clutch assembly I think this ones 170 ft lbs. the engine produces 145 ft lbs. I still have to decide there are other factors on an off the weight of the car, the overall gearing is quite high in 1st with a 2.2 gear, 3.95 diff and 13" sticky tires. So I am going to buy a lighter flywheel and will put the old one up for sale complete with the starter ring. Its not in bad condition but would be even better with a light skim. Caterham apparently do an external hydraulic slave cylinder that replaces the cable so I going for one of them to cope with the higher pressure plate. Treat myself to an alloy bellhousing 😬 So that leaves the pressure plate well I have sort a lot of opinions both on and off line. So 4 paddle or twin or IF it fits an 8.5" 6 paddle that's rather an attractive idea. I am not sure you can get a 6 paddle 7.25" that leaves the actuall presure I thinking about 250 ft lbs a a gut feeling. 'Can you hear me running' .........
