I have developed a small leak in my fuel tank. It's on the passenger side at the very bottom where it sits in the 'v'-shaped rail. It's definitely coming from here - there is no fuel coming from anywhere else (I have had the floor out to check - the whole tank is dry elsewhere).

I have read the threads regarding repair and have got hold of some 'Chemical Metal'. Now, presumably I have to loosen the tank to get at the leak - do I need to removed the filler, return, roll bar (standard BTW) etc. or is there an easier way? I will have access to a vehicle pit.

Car is a 2003 VVC SV

Many thanks!

Hi Pete,

If you just need to get access then I think that you'll probably get away with simply undoing the tank restraint - the angle section that runs along the top/front of the tank held in place by two threaded rods, one each side. I'm sure there'll be enough flex in the other bits. You might need to loosen the boot floor to allow the end of the tank to be lifted a bit.

Having said all that is chemical metal a good idea on something like this? A friend near me has the same leak and we'll be fitting a new tank as soon as I get time as the idea of repairing a fuel tank doesn't appeal to him or me for that matter. Just our 2d though.

Thank you Steve & Paul.

Steve - The repair is only temporary - and may become permanent if it works well 😬. I have also got hold of something called 'JB Weld' which looks better than Chemical Metal and I may use that instead.

Hope all your hounds are well!
