Miff Posted June 14, 2006 Posted June 14, 2006 My ignition light is flashing at low revs and very faintly at higher revs, the old battery was not holding it's charge which a replacement has solved. The voltage across the battery terminals with the engine running is about 13-14v - do i actually need to replace the alternator? Can I do this without removing the exhaust primaries? If so how? It all looks a bit tight. I have an apollo tank and presume i can just leave the belt in situ whilst changing the alternator? Of note the headlights and dash lights 'flicker' when at idle - i presume this is the same symptom as the flicker of the ignition light.
F355GTS Posted June 14, 2006 Posted June 14, 2006 Does sound like you need a new one. The alternator can be removed without removing the primaries, draw it forward then turn it vertically it will come out along side the Apollo tank Mark
Peter Carmichael Posted June 14, 2006 Posted June 14, 2006 I did one at the weekend and was very glad to have made the choice of taking the exhaust off. You also need to remove the engine mount if you do it this way. Horses for courses, but intact knuckles.
Myles Posted June 14, 2006 Posted June 14, 2006 I could not - for the life of me - get my alternator out of my k-series (race-chassis) without removing the zorst - and engine-mount in the end IIRC. I move the apollo out of the way and spent a good hour twisting the alternator every way feasible. No joy. Zorst off - and I still couldn't get it out backwards (although I'm sure I have before...) Finally removed the engine mount. Project Scope-Creep is live... Alcester Racing 7's Equipe - 🙆🏻™ Alcester-Racing-Sevens.com
Tony Whitley Posted September 2, 2007 Posted September 2, 2007 I couldn't get my alternator out forwards so I followed this tip and removed the exhaust Advice for anyone else who tries this: no-one said anything about reassembling in the reverse order 😔 I had to remove the alternator again to get no.1 primary through the bodywork and into position Edited by - Tony Whitley on 2 Sep 2007 08:57:49
