Bertfatal Posted June 14, 2006 Posted June 14, 2006 I am planning to fit mintex 1144 pads to the front of my SV (standard brakes). Would it be a good or bad idea to fit 1144s to the rear as well? Bertfatal
Fathead Posted June 14, 2006 Posted June 14, 2006 No, i think it may be over braked at the rear then. I was advised to stick the standard pads on the rear Tom The most southerly uk blatter 😬Yellow 1.6 Supersport 😬 Photos here
shn7 Posted June 14, 2006 Posted June 14, 2006 Guess it depends. I've had 1144 all round int he past and not had problems with the rears locking up before the fronts whereas others have had this problem. Steve. Not forgetting Percy the Polar Bear
Bertfatal Posted June 14, 2006 Author Posted June 14, 2006 Is there anyway of knowing before fitting them to the rear if it will cause a problem? Bertfatal
Tom_C Posted June 14, 2006 Posted June 14, 2006 Why not try the fronts first and see if you like the change in handling? I found 1144 front and standard rears gave the car a lovely pointy feel and far more stability on the brakes. Dunno if an SV might be different though... shn7 Posted June 14, 2006 Posted June 14, 2006 As Tom says, probably best to try changing the fronts first and then if you're happy leaving it to that. Steve. Not forgetting Percy the Polar Bear
Nev Posted June 14, 2006 Posted June 14, 2006 I had standard pads all round (also SV) and under heavy braking, or light in the wet, the back would tend to lock first. Changed to 1144's on the front as recommended on here and the balance was much better and fronts will now lock before the back. I'd agree with others and try the fronts only first, they were a big improvement on the standard pads. Nev
Bertfatal Posted June 14, 2006 Author Posted June 14, 2006 Thanks everyone I think I will do the fronts only first and see how it goes.I have atrack day on the 23rd so should be able to see if they make much of a difference.
