Type 9 input shaft play...normal?

Well, the engine is back together after my oil pump belt snapped on the m1...hopefully going back in some time this week, just ahd a look at the gearbox though (type 9) and the input shaft seems to have a fair amount of play in it. From side to side it is around 3-4mm. Is this normal?

That's ok, as the nose of the first motion shaft is supported in the bearing in the end of the crank
