I am having a few oil and water problems on my 1.8 K. I have done a pressure test which shows approx 230psi on all cylinders except no.2 which shows 210psi.

Does anyone in the Manchester area have a 'leak down tester' that I could borrow to determine where the fault lies?

Dave, 10psi is not bad because it's less than 10%. I think that you done the test on a hot engine ?

U can make your own " tester " just take an old spark plug and knock the porcelin out then you weld a tube to the spark plug and on the other end a connector thats suit your compressor, put it in 4th gear with the brakes on ( you will have to be with 2 ) now you put 10bar to that tube.

Now you listen if you hear air blowing, it's a bit of a rough test without a gauge but i works very well.

Thanks Elie,

The test was done on a lukewarm engine. I then dropped a teaspoon of oil in no.2 and got a reading of 240psi when cold, possibly suggesting a ring problem would you say?

I think you missread ........it is 20psi down but, as you say it is within 10% so is practicaly acceptable BUT the engine has started burning oil *confused* and I would like to find out why.

I get the jist of the simplicity of the tester so will take your advice and knock something together.
