stephen grant Posted June 11, 2006 Posted June 11, 2006 Not sure if it's where the back of the gearbox meets the propshaft, or from the cable (speedo? revs?) that goes into the back of the gearbox. I've wiped it all clean and i'll have another look tommorrow. How worried should I be? It looks like fresh oil, and i've had one or two drops on the garage floor, but it's nothing more than that at the moment. It's not happened before in my 2 years of ownership. thanks, stephen
Myles Posted June 11, 2006 Posted June 11, 2006 How clean is the top of the box? I used to vent oil (overfilled) and this ended up as a hanging-drip at the tail of the box. Miniscule amounts - nothing to worry about (in my case). Project Scope-Creep is live... Alcester Racing 7's Equipe - 🙆🏻™ Alcester-Racing-Sevens.com
stephen grant Posted June 12, 2006 Author Posted June 12, 2006 Well, that's the thing. I've managed to completely ignore the gearbox since I got the car - even when I took the engine out I left the box behind. I've never filled it and never checked the level (probably about time I did). So it's not going to be an overfill, since I haven't ever added oil. It did go off for a respray recently, so perhaps they might have jacked the nose up to an extreme enough angle to cause the back of the box to overflow, but I kinda think I'm grasping at non-existant straws here. I take it that if it persists, it can only be a leaky seal at the back of the box and I have to take the engine and box out? stephen
MikeW Posted June 12, 2006 Posted June 12, 2006 Are you sure it's not coming from the speedo drive oil seal? In any case a couple of drops doesn't sound much of a problem. Worth checking the gearbox oil level if you are concerned MikeW Mega Grad Race No 9
