Dickie Normuss Posted June 8, 2006 Posted June 8, 2006 As with most 5 speeds mine doesn't have a drain plug but I have a plan I have a small electric pump and some 5mm diameter very flexible silicon rube which I can feed into the filler hole to remove the old stuff. I doubt I'll get it all out before I refill with MTL. Is it going to be a problem if there's some of the old stuff left? Not sure if it will mix well with the new stuff 🤔 Seek forgiveness, not permission. Rules are for the interpretation of wise men and the obedience of fools.
Peter T Posted June 8, 2006 Posted June 8, 2006 I think you might struggle trying to get the oil through the 5mm pipe, it is quite thick when cold, so do it when it is very warm. I would try and get all the existing oil out first, mixing it with what you have could cause small problems, but this does depend on how old and what oil it is. The most important job is to remove as much as possible, measure the amount removed, this will give you a guide . R500 Mango Madness
Dickie Normuss Posted June 8, 2006 Author Posted June 8, 2006 I was going to do it after a good blat so will be warm and yep was going to measure it to It the original Ford stuff IIRC, being changed for Redline MTL. shn7 Posted June 8, 2006 Posted June 8, 2006 Might be easier to remove the top cover and go in that way. That way you'll also be able to see to guide the tube to the bottom of the box and see how much is left (if any). Steve. Not forgetting Percy the Polar Bear
DaveMorris Posted June 8, 2006 Posted June 8, 2006 Did the very same thing last night - after some di*k at DT's sold my wife the wrong oil and some di*k at home (me) happily added it to the 'box before reading the label The stuff I'd added was so slick that I'd have ended up with no synchro Lid off (10 bolts of 10mm socket variety) and then feed the pipe down the side of the gears into the little "sump" at the bottom of the casing. FWIW I then flushed ~1/2 pint of the PROPER redline stuff over the gears and then sucked this from the sump. Now ready to refill. Thankfully I'd not turned the g'box since added the slippy stuff so it hadn't beed spread allover the place. Wish I had an electric pump though. Had to make do with a 100ml syringe ☹️ Dave
Dickie Normuss Posted June 8, 2006 Author Posted June 8, 2006 100ml That must have taken ages ❗ Seek forgiveness, not permission. Rules are for the interpretation of wise men and the obedience of fools.
Area Representative Crudders Posted June 8, 2006 Area Representative Posted June 8, 2006 I use one of these here. Slurps up half a litre, decent bore pipe, cheap as chips, does the job Crudders
DaveMorris Posted June 8, 2006 Posted June 8, 2006 Ric, It did. But I consoled myself by cursing the DT salesperson (and my own stupidity) at every pull on the plunger. Dave.
