Hi All

Β

Well finally the Sun's out the cam belts fitted and I taken it out for a run well not that far 😬

Β

With the new bushes in the column and the camber angle corrected from 1.75 off side and 1.o nears side the difference is unbelievable. *thumbup* 😬 😬 😬 😬 😬 😬 😬 😬

Β

I now think that its been wrong for ages 😳. I fitted a quick new rack way back in 2001 this was also about the time when the brooklands were fitted, the scuttle changed and I think that's when I fitted new ball joints. Freestyle suspension soon followed as I was very unhappy with the handling. Not that I posted it but it did not make as big a difference as I expected it does now *thumbup* Now I have always thought that the very heavy steering was just the quick rack, other have said its heavy, nope its as light as a feather now. *thumbup* All the skipping about on rough roads seems to have gone. *thumbup*

Β

So for all those that have heard me lament on trackdays/sprints that I can never get the car set up right you will not hear that again.... (have to think up a new excuse for being last). *wink*

Β

I think the camber could be upped to 2.0 or ever 2.5 and its yet to have a flat floor.

Β

One VERY happy Bilbo tonight. 😬 😬 😬

Β

Other things well the cam belt change seems fine and I bought new alan bolts for the dizzy. Bu88er me one that I had reused to set the car up will not come out looks like a weld a hex socket to the bolt job *mad*. Still that can wait a while as it will tight but not un-tighten this is not the one that gave me problems last time.

Β

The set up on full chats fine but not perfect also I have a misfire every 15-30 seconds at idle that I can not cure .... so far. Also spits back on start up. Still its better after a run when hot but big bangs on a few rev ups to idle.

Β

Its NOT the timing, balance, jets, leads, dizzy connector, leads or plugs their relatively new having said that I will try swapping all with a new plug. First I will seal the exhaust yet AGAIN tomorrow night. I not looking for any advice, most importantly the change from idle to main jets is also fine.

Β

Its most likely that I have 2 or 3 running lean at low revs and one rich and thats not easy to sort with a very leaky exhaust joints. The carbs are not dripping so the needle jets should be ok.

Β

Still it maybe best to not muck about too much before the 10Th so I think I just do the exhaust and the plug check. I can always play with the carbs when I get there.

Β

'Can you hear me running' ......... OH YES and its music to my ears 😬 😬 😬

Bilbo,

What you don't say what tyres are you running.

If you're running radials, the 2.5Β° negative camber works well on track and road.

Hi Richard

Β

Running on A048 posting of others say the same as you, still I think I leave alone for a while then change so that I can appriciate the differences. Currently it feels like a completely different car and I need to get use to the lighter steering. When I posted its been heavy I am not a small chap and turning it on track bends had taken some effort at times on fast courners. If others had not posted that the quick rack was heavy I might have looked at it a lot sooner. In fact tonight I am *confused* why they did say that. Then again it was much more noticable with the very sticky A048's and tramlined more.

Did you change the bushes on the upper steering column ie dashboard and scuttle? If so could you let me know how you did it?

HI Tom

Β

Yes I changed both see here its half way down page 1.

Β

It was really quite easy if the bottom ones stuck you could drill out the bottom rubber leg.

Β

By the way the new ones do not have removable inserts.

hi Bilbo,

Β

Glad to hear you've got such an improvement *thumbup* I'll have to pop round and have a chat sometime, though probably can't for a few weeks yet.

Β

I'll expect to see you out and about then *wink*
