Paul Craddock
I'm exploring after-market headrests, but because my project ('95, imperial) came without any I need full details of the headrest stem ie length, breadth, width, cross section, radii etc. Please would someone check theirs out and send these data to me.Thanks. 7_Malc
Were headrests an option for the seats you have fitted when they were new? If so, they might be available second hand or as new-old-stock? Post a photo of the seats - this might act as useful nudge to help source them too. You can also get a head/ helmet rest / pad that mounts on the roll-bar. This could be an alternative solution. Area Representative paul richards Posted August 19, 2022 Area Representative Share Posted August 19, 2022 Which seats do you have?
Paul Craddock
Hi Malc, PaulApologies I haven't been checking the post for answers. It's a '95 (Imperial) with, as far as I'm aware, the original Caterham seats with access holes for single stem headrests. The headrest hole is, as you can see, oval and 32mm x 16mm hole is, as you can
Paul Craddock
MalcWhere can I look at and/or get the helmet rests that fit to the roll bar. (Should be simple, and cheap! Two U bolts, a metal plate and some padding??)
Richard K
The seats you have are known as 'Pre S Type'l have the same seats including head rests. What do you need to know about them?Richard
Paul Craddock
Hi RichardThanks. I've sourced some headrests (actually for a Defender 90/110) but want to make sure the stem will fit in the hole before I start faffing around (turns out I'll have to take out the seats, again!, to fit them) so if you have anything like this please measure and send me the dimensions for the stem; l x b & radii. Thanks
Richard K
PaulThe stem is 130mm in length and a flattened oval that mirrors opening in your seats.15mm x 30mmThe stem is held in place by 'pinch rollers' that you should be able to feel down the opening. When inserting the stem into the seat it a tight fit as I guess they are sprung and they stay at what ever height (if that makes sense).Richard

SM25T
Why do you have to remove the seats to fit them ?
Neil220
What's the difference between S type and Pre S type and when did they change? My car is 96 and the seat panels on the back are horizontal rather than vertical so I'm guessing that they are S3?Are the seats interchangeable? Are the headrests the same?
Richard K
If the seat is moved forward the head rest can be fitted with it still in the car (just).
Paul Craddock
The Defender seats don't fit - just a bit too tight. So I'm back to square one............. Roll bar head/helmet rests sounds the best option. Any suggestions where I should start looking for these?
Paul Craddock
I'd hoped that would be the case, but because my car's got lowered floors the seats don't actually go far enough forward to allow this (the adjustment lever fouls the cross member)
Richard K
#11 The bench seat and Pre S Type are interchangeable. The base cushion of the bench seat rest directly on floor between the back panel and the bar on the floor ie no movement. The Pre S Type runners bolt to a fixing at the rear and through the floor bar at the front.I think 'S Type' seats have a bolster supporting the thigh at front of the base.Paul - A length of oval hanging rail is the same size as the head rest bar. Might be a mm under sized but I tried in my seats and it fitted and 'gripped'.Richard
