Water temp guage playing up...

2007 Sigma...

Showing a very low reading after starting off working as expected.

Seems these have a relatively short life and the recommendation is to swap out for mechanical.

Does anyone sell a kit for this or has anyone done it and can lead me to the supplier ?

Thanks

"Showing a very low reading after starting off working as expected."

Is that "Showing a very low reading after starting off and then working as expected."? Or "Working as expected when starting off and then showing a very low reading."?

...

If the former is the thermostat faulty and staying open?

Thanks

I suggest checking the quality of two electrical contacts at the sender: the connector onto the wire and the connector onto the terminal of the sender. Have a good look, clean the surfaces and check that there isn't any play. Then when it next shows low give it all a good wiggle and see if the gauge then immediately shows something sensible.

Beyond that: have you got a multimeter?

Yes. The sender varies its resistance with temperature. You can do an initial test on the gauge alone by connecting a power feed to the appropriate terminal and the signal terminal to alternately complete the circuit without added resistance and to open circuit.

Ran it up on tickover tonight....

All hoses hot once stat is open.

Guage now working as expected.

Can only see a single twin wire sender on my engine, and when thats unplugged, the guage stops and the fan cuts in.....

Will see what happens on tomorrows commute.

I'm a Duratec man so I'm not too familiar with the Sigma.  However, if your set-up is similar. I think the sender you illustrated in #10 is indeed for the ECU.  The gauge sender is mounted in a "submarine" to the rear of the engine:
