150SV
2007 Sigma...Showing a very low reading after starting off working as expected.Seems these have a relatively short life and the recommendation is to swap out for mechanical.Does anyone sell a kit for this or has anyone done it and can lead me to the supplier ? Member Jonathan Kay Posted June 4, 2023 Member Share Posted June 4, 2023 "Showing a very low reading after starting off working as expected."Is that "Showing a very low reading after starting off and then working as expected."? Or "Working as expected when starting off and then showing a very low reading."?...If the former is the thermostat faulty and staying open?Jonathan
150SV
It was working at the start of a hour and half blat, but at the end reading low.Did it the other day as well, but went back to normal operation after a few minutes....
Member Jonathan Kay Posted June 4, 2023 Member Share Posted June 4, 2023 ThanksI suggest checking the quality of two electrical contacts at the sender: the connector onto the wire and the connector onto the terminal of the sender. Have a good look, clean the surfaces and check that there isn't any play. Then when it next shows low give it all a good wiggle and see if the gauge then immediately shows something sensible.Beyond that: have you got a multimeter?Jonathan
150SV
Yep got one
Member Jonathan Kay Posted June 4, 2023 Member Share Posted June 4, 2023 You can use the resistance range on the meter to test the sender. Either while it's in the Seven or with jugs of very hot and cold (± iced) water.Jonathan
150SV
Is there a way of testing the guage ?
Member Jonathan Kay Posted June 8, 2023 Member Share Posted June 8, 2023 Yes. The sender varies its resistance with temperature. You can do an initial test on the gauge alone by connecting a power feed to the appropriate terminal and the signal terminal to alternately complete the circuit without added resistance and to open circuit.Jonathan

Member Jonathan Kay Posted June 11, 2023 Member Share Posted June 11, 2023 I'd test the sender and the gauge. But if you don't want to do that how about gambling and replacing the sender?Jonathan
Member Jonathan Kay Posted June 11, 2023 Member Share Posted June 11, 2023 Please can you check those wire colours. ThanksJonathan

150SV
I am being told that the sensor pictured is the ECU sensor and not the guage sensor.....Its driving me mad, such a simple thing and I cant find the bloody thing,
John Vine
I'm a Duratec man so I'm not too familiar with the Sigma. However, if your set-up is similar. I think the sender you illustrated in #10 is indeed for the ECU. The gauge sender is mounted in a "submarine" to the rear of the engine:JV
StevehS3
My Sigma is similar to John's Duratec. The sender has a single green wire. I didn't notice when I was in the garage but I presume the metal housing has an earth connection. Worth checking that.
StevehS3
Actually this looks like the earth connection on John's photo.
150SV
Thanks guys. Please see my engine bay pics, I dont THINK I have the submarine ?
StevehS3
This is a internet photo of a Sigma 150. Do you not have the submarine circled blue or the senders in green?
