ULEZ Compliant K-Series Caterham

Picking up from another thread on road charging, my 2003 K series R400 was originally showing as ULEZ compliant and then switched to non-compliant when ULEZ went live for the wider London area last year. The V5 does not show any emission data and I am not sure if any of the cars are Euro 4 compliant (I suspect not).

I know the results can be variable and some people have found their K-Series cars to be ULEZ compliant (can be checked here https://tfl.gov.uk/modes/driving/check-your-vehicle/). If so, any idea what it was based on e.g. Euro 4, date, NOx data etc.?

The ULEZ requirements are to be Euro 4 compliant or have NOx levels at or below 0.08g/km. I'm not optimistic of getting under that but has anyone requested a Certificate of Conformity from Caterham and got one back? I recently did this for another car I have, CoC showed under the limit and TFL updated the car to compliant status.

Any ideas / feedback would be appreciated.

Thanks

The R400K is not approved to any Euro norm. I guess with the batched injection and the location of the catalyst you'll struggle to make it pass an appropriate test. EU3 may be within reach, but that's about it.
I think the SAIC K-series (L-series) was updated to EU4, but that would not be in Caterham trim.

Thanks both, that makes sense.

What I can't figure out them is why some K series Caterhams are ULEZ compliant and how they are being assessed if there is no CoC / emissions data?

For example, a random reg I looked at on the net was R70DJA (2006 K series Caterham) which is ULEZ compliant. Same for FN06DYT.

The system probably cant cope with anything but 'normal' cars so anything that has a registration date post EU4 introduction is just assumed to be ok. Its probably not worth the effort to update it for the few cars this allows to escape the charge.

I don't live near London and have no intention of taking any car there ever if I can help it but sticking my 1.6 K series 2008 plate into that link above indicates I don't have to pay an emissions charges, just the congestion charge. Who knows.

I'll be living in the expanded ULEZ next year and my 2002 k-series won't comply. So am looking at upgrading, just popped a 2019 Caterham reg into the checker and it's not compliant. My mate has just purchased a 2013 and it is. What the feck is going on!

Bizarrely, my 1958 Frogeye is ULEZ exempt. Go figure.

Too few surviving to make it worth categorising unless they exclude all cars over a certain age.  Although there are three in various stages of reconstruction in Berkhamsted (see the Unusual Sightings thread: https://www.caterhamlotus7.club/forum/spotted/unusual-sighting?page=8)

Both the Crossflow and the 21 would attract a £12.50 inside the North & South Circular.  I no longer have any desire to drive into central London there's no pleasure to be had, I'd prefer to use public transport.

Agreed you may not want to drive into central London but hard to avoid the ULEZ issue if you live there and want to get out!

My problem is I love the character of the K series and not sure if there is a good, compliant alternative so may just have to live with the cost. Assuming 20 days use per year (realistic for me), that's an extra £250 of road tax. Not ideal but not a show stopper either.
