Type 9 gearbox issue after removing top lid

I removed the top lid of my type 9 gearbox to check oil level and fit and access fitting so I can check/change oil in the future.

I've now put it back together and I can't select gears properly.  The gear lever feels terrible, like it is in the wrong position and restricted  movement.

I may have inadvertently moved the gear lever whilst the top lid was removed from the gearbox.

Is there a technique for working out what position the gear lever should be in for putting it all back together?

Trackday on tuesday and I'm starting to panic!

Any advice gratefully received.

There is a washer type item on the selector mechanism that has to slot into the bracket on the lid

Thanks Ian, those pics were very helpful.

I got my wife to move the gear lever and got the silver disc to line up with the slot.....gearbox fixed!

What a relief....thanks for the advice.

Well done - always difficult doing stuff down the tunnel with the engine and box in situ!
