Small number plates

I want to change my front plate for something smaller. I have done this in the past but cannot remember the size.

Fancy Plates are offering one at 390mm x 84mm which seems to be about right (I know they are not strictly legal, but they look so much better!)

Anyone using any other dimensions and, if so, where from?

JDM plates make the smallest legal plates. If you have a 1 in the number they are 424 x 101 and look about right on the 7 IMO.

I have a 3/4 size plate from 'Fancyplates' and am really pleased with how they look.  They are smaller but still retain the aesthetic proportion so you dont immediately notice they are not full size.  Ive only replaced the front one on mine as i think the rear doesnt look bad with the standard plate.

That is the way I am going. I am pretty sure they are the same as the plates on my former car.

myshowplates make a 9"x3" front works for a 5 character reg number dont mess with the spacing or font.

My "small" plate measures 340mm x 90mm

We have to think what these plates are for chaps, if my missus or kids were taken out by a car with "small" or "period" plates which didn't show up on CCTV I'd be somewhat miffed.

I've got a small front plate AND take it from me that they do show up on CCTV (in a wrong time, wrong place lane) 

ps! It's not usual for blokes to be bragging how small theirs is

Can't see that the plate size has anything to do with recognition, just the size of the letters, the numbers and the spacing which presumably needs to stay the same.

ANPR works perfectly well here with no front plate, a rear plate is all that is needed, as is the case for motorcycles in the UK, too.

I used a Fancy Plates 3/4 size in the end  - regular spacing and normal lettering. It does look a heck of a lot better on the car and, unless you place it alongside a full sized plate, it doesn't particularly stand out as small.

I agree Terry, I've just received mine and it looks great, and really not so small as to draw attention.

spacing and font will draw attention, after our shunt one of the officers brought the front plate to me and commented it had survived pretty well, no mention of size (or colour) had a long cheat about tyres, compounds and  aging etc, he was responsible for working with the Welsh road rally boys and was a real petrol head

So the old stick on numbers onto the nose cone top won't work now?,  Mr and Mrs. Killjoy certainly got a hand in this.

Anyone knocking about without a front plate attached, but in the car "just fell off officer"?

This comes up quite often. The penalty isn't lower than for an illegal plate. And annoying the police officer is generally a bad idea: they've seen and heard it all before. (As confirmed by a Member who has been on the other side of the conversation... )

Does anyone know of another supplier of 3/4 size number plates other than fancy plates as they have took my money and not sent my plates, their advert states on your doorstep in 48 hours, I had confirmation of my order 10 days ago, I have left messages on their answer phone because after numerous calls no one ever answers, ,I've also sent emails.

These are meant to be good. Not used them myself but a colleague just has and rates them.
