blueyedbiker
Evening all, recommendations for diff oil please, standard 3.9 Sierra, not LSD.Ta.
DJ.
It was designed to use EP90 / GL5 mineral oil. I buy Fuchs Titan 90 from Opie Oils (I use the LS version with the LSD modifier), but there's loads out there
Wrightpayne
I've currently got ford EP80 (or 90 cannot remember) in mine which has a quaiffe ATB diff. Available at most ford dealers as used in the Ranger gearbox and diff.Jason Fletcher posted a while ago about having a noisy diff after a dyno session and tested a load of different oils. He recommended the Ford oil albeit with the LSD additive which is rare/no longer available!Using a Machine Mart oil syringe you can evacuate the diff with the boot floor removed, via the fill plug.Ian

SM25T
Castrol B373 recently recommended to me. Bought some to use during the winter.
blueyedbiker
Thanks for all the responses, very enlightening. I thought about using the B373 but I've had it on the shelf for about 10 years, does it deteriorate over time even though it's still sealed? blueyedbiker
And while I'm at it, what's the preferred spec for a type 9 'box? 160bhp X Flow up front.
Wrightpayne
Must be GL4Ian
Q Catcher
I've found Castrol B373 is much quieter than the previous Caterham semi-synthetic GL5 diff oil. My diff's a Sierra 3.92 LSD. It takes 1.3 litres from empty.
DJ.
Type 9 works very nicely with Castrol EP80 (GL4).
Member Jonathan Kay Posted November 14, 2017 Member Share Posted November 14, 2017 ... does it deteriorate over time even though it's still sealed?I'd guess not.Jonathan
7 wonders of the world
Type 9 boxes work well with Redline MTL fill from empty with 1.2 Ltrs irrespective of which level plug variant you have.
Wrightpayne
I thought I'd read on here one of the specialists recommended against MTL in the ford box as it caused premature baulk ring wear.I'll try and find the postIan
ChrisC
It is still being recommended by one well know specialist, well it was a week ago.
