Show me your resprayed car...

Hiya, I'm off to visit a paint shop next week for quite a few jobs.  Some small patches of corrosion at rear wheel arches, stone chips, odd bubble here and there.

I keep thinking if I do the lions share of the strip down and deliver on a trailer, surely it isn't that big a job to prep and paint a Caterham?

I've got a Solarbeam Yellow 310S, which is lovely, but I really love the Riviera Blue with a gray stripe.

Who has done a full re-spray and are you happy with it?

Cheers

Stuart

When mine was reskinned in 2018 due to corrosion around the grot traps, I went from silver to Daytona blue (I'd always wanted a blue one!). Chris at 7workshop stripped it, TSK did the paint. Blue with a grey stripe you say...

It's a bit lighter than I'd originally expected, but was very happy with it.

I had my '99 car repainted a few years ago from Lotus Azure Blue to Porsche Miami Blue, I pondered Riviera blue for ages but decided everyone else had it, not a number, free man and all that *bowtie*

I stripped it myself then had a local painter collect it. If you want a really high shine on a solid colour (rather than metallic) check whether whoever's painting it does a "clear over colour" process, it's pretty standard for metallics but not necessarily the case for solid colours.

Mine was a little short of £2,500 including spare carbon rear wings in body colour, plus having the front wings and headlights lacquered. The rear wings are still plain carbon and untouched.

There's plenty of places that'll do a cheaper job but by the time I stripped it all I decided to go for the best job I could afford. There was also quite a lot of tidying involved from previous half door and tonneau fitments.

And don't forget to factor in paint protection film .....

Edited to add ... my car had already been repainted 12 months before I bought it, I have the bill for the work and it was in excess of £2K and not a good job. I'd also looked at a couple of Riviera Blue cars at a local Caterham dealer and was less than impressed with the paint, yet a friend's car has been repainted Riviera Blue and it looks stunning. All is not equal!

Prospray in Warrington. When I looked around at prices there's significant variation and mine's at the upper end, but I'd already seen the quality of the work on another local Caterham and was prepared to pay the higher price. Not all paint jobs are the same and like most things, the cost usually reflects this. The car in the workshop before mine was a Porsche 364 Speedster having a £25K restoration!

Mine was done by TSK - the car went via Arch for check over and reskin, they then transported it down to Kent for Tony to do his magic.  Tony brought it back to Lancashire in his van.  PM me, include a real email address and Ill fire some pics over and more details.

On that note has anyone got experience of a good supplier of de sls. I'm looking for just basic Vaterham logos x3 for bonnet sides and one on the rear..Might want something slightly bespoke but nothing complicated. Will ask Tony if he uses someone but any thoughts welcome..

I had read somewhere else that he was a busy man and at times hard to get hold of.. Ideally I want someone solid/no nonsense that does it full time and sells a quality product/service. There's obviously a lot of companies out there doing this sort of thing but would prefer a recommendation.. Cheers
