Member Jonathan Kay Posted September 8, 2022 Member Share Posted September 8, 2022 Until proved otherwise that's the headlamp relay. Recent discussion. Please could you test to check.ThanksJonathan
The_Dr
Thanks,What's the easiest way to test ? Operate the lights and listen for a clicking sound ?
SM25T
Hold it and turn on the lights, you'll feel the operation. Or use a voltmeter on the terminals !
Member Jonathan Kay Posted September 8, 2022 Member Share Posted September 8, 2022 As above. Or remove the relay from its base and see what stops working.JonathanPS: I'd be very interested in some photos of the layout of the other relays and the fuses. The_Dr
The other fuses were identified in this thread, but I haven't identified the relays as yet.I will try and locate the indicator relay as I want to upgrade to LEDs.
SM25T
That's an easier one as it clanks merrily with indicator on if an old electro mechanical type
Member Jonathan Kay Posted September 9, 2022 Member Share Posted September 9, 2022 "The other fuses were identified in this thread, but I haven't identified the relays as yet.I will try and locate the indicator relay as I want to upgrade to LEDs."Got it, thanks. That thread includes a possible relay layout.I have some circuit diagrams that didn't appear in Assembly Guides that might become relevant. When investigating this relay please could you try and discover if it is the headlamp ON/OFF, the headlamp MAIN/ DIP, or something else. And note the colours of the wires connected to the relay base.ThanksJonathan
The_Dr
Ok, will do ! I'll check it out, and the indicator one, when I get some time over the weekend.
The_Dr
So the indicator relay was easy to identify by the noise and touching the case. It's on the bottom left of the board (an unmarked relay).Haven't been able to identify the one that hangs down as yet. I tried all the lights and other electrics but couldn't feel it doing anything.I'll need to remove it and see what doesn't work..
OldAndrewE
The diagram on it says it is a changeover relay with a diode across the coil. This is a similar one on Halfords (not same number though) Halfords HEF559 Relay 12V 40A 5 PIN | Halfords UK The suggested applications are listed as:Electric sunroof / Dashboards / ECU / Automatic transmission / Petrol pumpCentral locking / Anti-lock brakes / Air conditioning / Circuit boardsHow many of those do you have?
