Programming a Sterling Immobiliser

Hey, I bought a new Sterling key bob for my 2016 310S as an extra spare.

Following the handbook instructions to pair it I've become unstuck at the part where the LED rapidly flashes upon turning on the ignition three times.  I understand it is meant to flash rapidly then flash once to show reprogramming of the fob.  Mine just keeps on flashing rapidly, I gave up after a minute or so.

Anyone know where I'm going wrong?IMG_3484.thumb.JPG.94d640349c2d7eb312f6a2d74ecc7c4e.JPG

With the R400D keyless push-button dash, step 1 of programming is different, as I found out with some experimentation. The ignition has to be on to disarm the system, and the flashing LED goes out, then it is switched off to give a solid red LED that indicates the system is still armed (it stays in this state for 20 seconds before shutting down). While the LED is still glowing solid, steps 2 to 10 are executed, as in the manual.

I was lucky that a spare fob from Caterham was low enough cost to not attract duty and GST (Canadian VAT), so including shipping and handling to Calgary of £8, it was cheaper than buying in the UK, as I don't have to pay UK VAT of £10.

I bought a spare fob for mine from Caterham a few years ago, but I gave up trying to pair it, using the instructions in the owners manual. I'll have another crack at it, following the advice on this thread.

The car came with a spare fob, but it looked like the previous owner had backed the car over it & sure enough, it was as dead as a dodo!
