Oil in a pinch

Recommended Posts

I've found myself let down by a certain car manufacturers parts company and so I need to chuck in a litre of readily available oil from halfords or someone. Any recommendations? I'm planning on doing an oil change when I get home in 250 Miles anyway, but I'm not happy with the current oil level.

I guess any 5w50 will be fine?

Depends on your engine. Fully synthetic is the norm.

Duratec usually 5w50 NOT available at Halfords though as an interim you could get away with 5w40.

Sigma takes 5w30 or if you are a track god 5w50.

Sorry. It IS a duratec.
I'll just get something at a petrol station then

upon checking the car and going to adjust the roller barrel clearance I discovered this

I got some castrol. still waiting on Cater.... the supplier to supply my oil. thanks all. also managed to put in a Caterham replacement duratec cable and it seems to be 2x as stiff accelerator as it was before. going to take it all apart again and chuck some 3 in 1 oil down it. the bends are all smooth but the cable has none of the thermal insulation and took an hour of sanding down in a drill to get the bung to fit. I wonder if it has a good teflon inner inside the steel outer.

Have you checked that the throttle pedal pivots freely when no cable attached ? Lubricate as required. Check the cable slides freely when not fitted. Check the butterfly moves freely without cable fitted. Check cable path is straight inside pedal box
