ScottR400D
Secure the two rear, upper, then the lower ones.
Roger Ford
I don't bother with the lower ones, neither do most other racers. They're not necessary to hold the nosecone in place.
Member Jonathan Kay Posted November 17, 2022 Member Share Posted November 17, 2022 IIRC the sizes are in the archives, and have changed once. If Redline don't have any please let us know and I'll see if I can find the information in the archives.Jonathan

Area Representative Iain McCallum Posted November 17, 2022 Area Representative Share Posted November 17, 2022 Have a look at these for the lower ones from Car Builder Solutions. So much easier to get located.
Simon420R
They look like a perfect solution, especially for those with a dry sump. Do you know how they're listed? I can't find them on their website.
Roger Ford
Found through an image search : https://www.carbuilder.com/us/wing-dzus-fastener-dzwf2Edit: ah, no longer available. That's probably why they didn't show up.Try here instead
Simon420R
Fantastic! Thanks for that. I'll be ordering a couple now. My 420R is kept in a residential garage in London and I'm always rather nervous about leaving my car thrumming away while I faff around on my back with a screwdriver trying remove the nose cone in order to check the oil level. These will make life a lot simpler.
Tom_Arundel
I think they were originally designed to be turned with a coin so I always carry an M12 washer in my pocket!
Drumster
even better, drill a hole in said washer and fix to keyring
Paul Craddock
Note that the upper and lower dzus fasteners are different lengths. go to https://caterhamparts.co.uk/search?controller=search&orderby=position&orderway=desc&search_query=dzus&submit_search=

Simon420R
Great idea! I'd be up for one of those.
bahf
I've seen a different solution, a single spring loaded fastener at the centre, which is the same as those used at the front of the bonnet. It works well.

John Vine
#1: ...when refitting nose cone which order do you secure them... I fit the lower ones first.Re washers, tools etc, I bought a pair of stubby screwdrivers (like these, but not this brand) about 20 years ago. (The Phillips one is for the front lower inboard screw on the pedal-box cover.) They live happily together in the handbrake well.JV
bahf
Innovated, tested and developed by the one and only ECR #
ECR
Can't claim to have innovated it but it does work well. No feeling around on your knees ( in the rain) for the dzus fasteners. A one handed operation and no tools needed
Leadership Team Shortshift Posted November 20, 2022 Leadership Team Share Posted November 20, 2022 Any chance of a photo of the ingenious ECR/bahf solution? I think I understand but you know what they say about a photograph...James

Guy Lowe
Never bothered fitting the lower two. 45K in 20 years, never had a problem (or dirty knees).
Simon420R
Maybe that's the simple answer for me then. It would be nice not to have to hurriedly throw myself onto the ground, squinting into the darkness trying to locate the bottom screws so I can check my oil level.
