Q Catcher
Anyone know which are the correct NGK plugs for the current Duratec 2.0 as fitted in the 360R? Thanks
Member Jonathan Kay Posted April 24, 2022 Member Share Posted April 24, 2022 Caterham Parts have TR6AP-13 for "SPARK PLUG DURATEC STANDARD MODELS". (But different for a 485.)John Vine in 2014 wrote: "My 2008 R400D came with Ford's 5M5G-12405-AA TR6AP-13. These are made, AFAIK, by NGK. Gap is 1.3mm. I think some owners run the (slightly harder) NGK BR7EFS instead."Further discussion in 2020.Jonathan
John Vine
I would say TR6AP-13, but possibly reducing the gap to 1.0mm (see below). By the way, my local Ford dealer says these plugs are good for 60K miles! As mentioned in JK's second link above, my R400D started life with Ford's own FoMoCo TR6AP-13 plugs (made, I think, by NGK). On the advice of Steve Greenald, I moved to NGK BR7EFS (pre-set to 0.65mm / 25 thou) gapped to 0.9mm (37 thou).About a couple of years later (2019), I reverted to the FoMoCo plugs as I was suffering from stalling when cold and a bout of misfiring. At the same time, I reduced the gap from 1.3mm to 1.0mm in an effort to reduce voltage stress on the coil-on-plug following a COP failure in France. The car has run impeccably ever since -- no misfires, no stalling, no more COP failures. Make of that what you will!JV
7 wonders of the world
In a standard Ford engine the COP will happily cope with a 1.3 gap for the the service interval of 60k plus.Once you start altering cams and CRs you will normally find the need to reduce the gap as compression pressures increase.A set of NGK's finest BR7EFS (gapped to 20 thou) keep my all my ponies happy
Dave Hardcastle
When I replaced my R400D plugs, I fitted NGK Iridium ITR6F13. Can't remember if that's what came out or if it was a research decision. Expensive as I recal,l but never had an issue with them.
