wpqs Posted August 29, 2021 Share Posted August 29, 2021 I'm moving from Switzerland to Malta with my Supersport SV (2002) and want some advice about registering the car with the Maltese Transport Authority particularly tips on getting through the roadworthiness test. She posted on here if I recall as se7enmad, with her professional background she was really helpful giving me some advice over a bursitis/elbow problem.Might be worth doing a site search and see if you can get in contact with her, she might be able to offer more "local" advice.Stu. Area Representative Geoff Brown Posted August 30, 2021 Area Representative Share Posted August 30, 2021 Best of luck with your move to Malta with the Seven.As a fully paid up EU member & if the rest of the mainland EU is to go by there will be hoops to jump through for cars such as a Seven. The Maltese authorities do like paperwork.I lived in Malta in the late 1970s metalled roads then were at a premium. Things are much better but upkeep & repair can be worse than the UK ! Wandering off the latest main roads on to what appear to be sound tarmac surfaces has its challenges - no kerbs, huge pot holes, LOTS of dust & wandering animals. The roads in Malta seem a bit better than those in Sicily which were shocking in places, particularly the Autostrada A19. It was full of sections permanently roped off as roadworks due to the collapsing surface which nobody seemed to be addressing. However, the warmness of the Sicilian people more than compensated. The car is now safely in Malta and I got a three month temporary road permit which allows me to drive on Swiss plates and insurance until my Maltese permit arrives. The process is a bit convoluted so I might write a quick overview for others once I have successfully completed it. The major issue so far is getting decent local insurance for a >10 year old car as it seems only third party is available; not even fire and theft. But avoid conversations about local politics as the ignition point for robust talk is low !Enjoy your time there as I did for two years. I resided in Birzebbuga which was just a sleepy fishing village. More of a town now with the large port nearby which used to be the Kalafrana Beach Club. The opposite shore line at Delimara is now spoilt by the eye sore of a power station. Progress !Venture north to Comino & Gozo to relax. But don't use the Seven unless the roads have really improved.
