Hub nut size?

CycleSi

Recommended Posts

I've got a 2002 R300 Superlight with a De Dion axle and Ford diff and I'm replacing the rear pads/discs tonight.

I know the torque setting on the large hub nut is 270nm but can anyone tell me what the nut size is please so I can get the correct socket to fit it.

Somebody suggested it 'might' be 42mm?

Cheers,

Si

I'm sure I paid about a tenner for mine. And then promptly ground the heck out of it so that it will fit through the centre of my wheels. Rope a mate in to help stomp on the brakes and get a whacking great breaker bar to undo those nuts. And remember that one side is a left-hand thread.

If it helps re handedness....

From the Assembly Guide: Place the thrust washer over the driveshaft and secure using the 41 mm nyloc nut (LH plain insert, RH green insert) noting that the LH nyloc nut has a LH thread.

ETA:  If you plan to buy a socket, there's a good offer here: http://www.drapertools.com/product/26669/Expert%2041mm%203-4inch%20Square%20Drive%20Hub%20Nut%20Impact%20Socket

Just for Information.

Right hand side rear hub hut, Genuine Ford Part Number 6133688, packaged 17/11/2017, and supplied by CC is no longer 41mm but 42mm.

The left hand side kit supplied rear hub nut (at the time of posting) remains the familiar 41mm, but this could just be old stock because the ford packaging / label looks older and there is no packaging date.

Obviously I have photos for the build blog, but genuine Ford part supplied by CC, bag opened by me. Part number remains unchanged, only difference is the packing date and the newer look to the label. It would be nice to get a same age left hand thread nut to see if that remains 41mm.
