Half hoods - Roll bar compatibility

You could speak to Thundersports, they will have made it for Caterham, although I suspect it will not. The outer sections of the earlier single diagonal bar are vertical, I recall on the double diagonal they slope inwards slightly making the top section narrower. It's important with the half hood that it fits the top profile of the bar correctly.

Danny, when I went to Oxted (Thudersports) and bought a half hood, I had to take it back because it didn't fit properly on my 1996 Scholarship car (i e. traditional Arch chassis, live axle car with a sloping forward, single diagonal FIA type rollover bar).

They did a great job in making it fit but this involved them making a new pattern, which they did on the spot.

Yes I think you have confirmed my doubts, just looking at various pictures it does appear that the single diagonal bar version has vertical uprights as opposed to inwardly sloping ones of the double diagonal. Just looking at the Thundersports half hoods on eBay it does actually state that they are not compatible. So I think that is the answer. I have also sent an enquiry to Caterham for clarification as they advertise only one type of half hood for an S3 FIA roll bar. I will post their reply for the purposes of completeness. Thanks for your input.

Stephen, thanks for the info. The reason for my original post was that there was a hood for sale for a third of the price of a new one. If it then needs to be modified I imagine it would probably be cheaper to buy a new one. Trouble is they are currently on a 10 week delivery from Thundersports.
