Member Jonathan Kay Posted November 17, 2022 Member Share Posted November 17, 2022 Hi, Dean.I lost two wings before finding a solution. There's a vast amount in the archives on this, please let me know if you'd like any help with searching.A personal summary:1 Some Members like to use additional fasteners such as bigHeads or cable ties or bolts. Others only use adhesive. 2 There are many different recommendations for adhesives, inclding Sikaflex 221, other Sikaflex products, and Tiger Seal. 3 Preparation of the stay and wing may be more important than the precise type of adhesive. I eventually degreased and cleaned the wing, rubbed the stay back to bare metal, and made a sausage roll rather than a sandwich.Jonathan
Area Representative Golf Juliet Tango Posted November 17, 2022 Area Representative Share Posted November 17, 2022 That is assuming you don't want traditional bolts which do work. I never lost a wing using that technique.
JP
I'll be replacing mine and I'll stick with bolts too.Out of interest, have you found any alternative (read cheaper) supplier other than Caterham? I might do all wings and the nose cone on mine...
7 wonders of the world
If your looking for black cycle wings you can get perfect ones in ABS (mirror finish far better than GRP) from Steve Humphries @ YC Plasticslighter than Carbon fibre and nigh on bomb proof and cheaper than GRP too.Secure with Tigerseal http://www.ycplastics.co.uk/He also does half doors toowith the elbow pocket and a few other 7 bits too. KnifeySpoony
I used sikaflex 221 on my recent build, applied as instructed in the current build guide. No issues with multiple track days with Vmax of 124mph.
