John Vine
(I'm posting this in TechTalk on the assumption that those members willing to lend 7 equipment are likely to be TechTalk readers!)Following the brief discussion in this thread, I asked Shaun whether the idea of a central equipment-for-loan register would be feasible. His reply was:"Sounds good to me. If you can come up with the initial list then I will add a document to the Guides section of the website - this will sit behind the paywall so that only members can view it."Shaun also suggested the following edit/update mechanism:"The easiest way is to contact me and I'll add it to the document. There are a handful of "Guides Authors" for the site and once we've got the list in place then any of them will be able to edit it. There isn't currently a smarter way of doing it but I think we'll manage fine - I'll put my L7C email address on the list so people know who to contact to update it."So, I'm happy to act as "initial list compiler" and then send it to Shaun. To keep things really simple, I'm proposing that the list should include just the following fields: Item (such as "engine crane") Location (perhaps "county" would do?) Lender (BlatChat "username") Comments (freeform)If possible (mechanism to be agreed with Shaun), the Lender field will contain a link to the username. Then, if someone wants to enquire of a particular lender, he merely has to click on the link to send a message. What do you good people think? If this looks like a good way to proceed, please send me a message with your equipment info (or post here if you prefer). Then I'll transfer your input to the initial register.JV

Member Jonathan Kay Posted February 21, 2016 Member Share Posted February 21, 2016 Thanks to both of you. Great start.Any ideas from anyone on how to help make it work and keep it going? I would guess it will be mostly spotting requests in other threads and pointing to the list. Perhaps discussion with ARs would help?Jonathan
Area Representative Golf Juliet Tango Posted February 21, 2016 Area Representative Share Posted February 21, 2016 John VineRather than county (not that that is bad), you might consider Area (as the Club sees it) or the Post Office "out code" (the first part of your postcode e.g. mine is HP4). The latter is more specific than county but still sufficiently discreet for individual's privacy.
John Vine
Shaun: thanks for loading this up. I've sent you a message re a few small glitches, at least one of which is down to me. Spot the duplicate, chaps.GJT: Interesting suggestion. To test it out, I'm happy to poll those who've offered items to see whether they would go along with that idea. Perhaps County plus Outcode? John Vine
Thinking more about postcodes, I'm left wondering whether adding an outward code to the list would actually add very much? The "Location" field (currently set to county and/or large town) is intended simply to flag up items for which a special collection journey might be feasible. Then, if it is, the potential borrower will need to contact the lender for more details anyway. JV
