Aftermarket Front LED Headlights

Evening All!

Does anyone have any experience with fitting the cheaper LED headlights to their Seven that are available?

They are A LOT cheaper than the genuine ones, which makes me dubious over their quality/performance, so wondered if anyone has any experience using them!

Ah, great I want them to be MOT compliant and looks like the ones I've been looking at are the Wisamic ones.

Good to hear that others have used them and they are OK...can't belive they are nearly 5 times less expensive than the genuine Caterham ones!

As Jonathan points out, there's loads on Blatchat about LED headlamps and having looked through much of it, I'm struggling to find a link that will take me to the much vaunted Wisamic LED headlamps to fit 7" bowls.  Would someone kindly post a link that will take me there directly.  My current LED set-up has the performance but are neither MoT compliant or E marked so think I need to change them.

Due to a small incident at Prescott hillclimb *redface* I recently bought the Wisamic ones (like the second of Jonathan's pictures) but with the halo DRL. They are much brighter than the standard halogen lights and the beam pattern seems OK against the garage door. I have yet to use them on the road so cannot comment on that.

Fitting was reasonably straightforward but they are much thicker at the edge than the original halogen units which meant I couldn't get the standard W clips to fit - I ended up using some similar clips for retaining greenhouse windows! They seemed to have held OK. Otherwise it was a simple plug and play - I used the halo DRL as the sidelight.

Time and stock allowing I would probably have gone for the Furore ones as they have a built in indicator and I could then have removed the indicator pods.

#16 Shaun, I would caution against the idea of combining front indicators with the headlamp units.  This is a trend which I think makes it much harder for other road users to distinguish between side or headlights and turn indicators, particularly where extremely bright LEDs are concerned and is surely a retrograde step.  When the indicators are located in a completely separate position it is so much easier for other users to see them.  Integration makes no sense to me.

OE manufacturers have been guilty of exactly the same mistake, usually in rear lamp clusters where different functions are stacked in concentric circles and it becomes difficult to distinguish between them when illuminated.  VW made this mistake on some Golf models, and have since gone back to increased separation of tail light functions.  Rant over.

I agree with the comments on combined light functions - I don't like them either as they can be difficult to see. The Furore ones, switch off the halo DRL when the indicator operates but I have no idea what they are like when the headlight is on.. Would have been handy for me though since I also damaged one of the indicators in the "incident" and had to replace that too! Car is hardly used on the road so wouldn't be a big deal for me.

Ref. the "W" clips - a couple of them disappeared in the incident anyway so I had to find some others but the originals were very stiff so definitely not easy to use them - I guess with some perseverance I could have bent them to shape.

I bought some of the 5 3/4 LED Cafe Racer headlights back in May. First time I used them at night I thought they were rubbish - I even thought they could be fitted upside down.

Today I adjusted them down a lot and what a revelation on dipped and main. I think they could come back up a bit.

Morale is when fitting LEDs check the adjustment!

I'm thinking of renewing my 7" lights.  I don't have side repeaters on my wings but my front indicators are visible when standing 1m out at the rear of the car as per MOT guidance.  I guess the integrated ones would not be visible from the side/rear?
