Aces shift light wiring - which wires are which on tacho?

IIRC ...

There's red and black cables for power, red is the ignition switched +ve, black is earth.

There should be a black shielded wire with a pre-installed spade connector, this goes to the low tension side of the coil or the lead that then runs to the tacho, I think it's black/white.

Plus there's the loom lead that connects the display to the control unit.

I don't recall there being the other wires you mention, although if it's a s/h unit it may have had the wires added or extended? Green is usually an ignition switched live, Red/white is usually the gauge illumination circuit.

Morning Stu

Thanks for the reply, just realised I worded my question very badly!

The wires I was referring to are the ones on my Rev counter and I was trying to work out which ones to splice into.

So in summary on the tacho

Black = earth

Green = switched live

black and white = tacho signal

cheers Finlay

  • 2 months later...

So from memory

green on tacho connected to red on ACES

black on tachometer to Black earth on ACES

Shielded wire is the one I'm unsure about: it doesn't have the pre fitted spade connector. So it's a bare wire with shielded inner and outer core. How to connect to the tacho feed?

Fin, probably worth taking the ignition switched positive (red) and negative (black) feeds for the ACES unit independent of the tacho, Without the shielded cable connected the display should light up momentarily when the ignition is turned on, if it does then that side of the wiring is correct. The shielded cable can then be connected to the white/black coil to tacho cable.
