With the MBE I'm assuming your on TB's and 3D igntion...? even on OE carbs and dizzy you will be able to get to the 86-92 limits of 3.5% CO and 1200ppm's - a Crossflow running on crushed coal can do that...
Check the TB's are carefully balanced, idle imbalance will naturally effect the emissions, if you can beg borrow or otherwise acquire a syncrometer it will help.
I run a 1996 Supersprint with 2ltr Zetec on twin 45's. I do the same as Shaun #2. Print off the relevant section in the MOT guide, and hand it to the tester.
I have twigged, I have no lambda in the exhaust. It was set up at T&R for optimal range on track and we don't have mot's in Jersey...hence no need for low speed mot passing numbers.
I think I need to sort one out.
Just a further thought...
If I can't get the pre '75 loophole, I have and MBE 9A4 ecu , am I right that I can have a switchable map in there for road use only...i.e. mot time?

Yes, Jenvey setup . I'm surprised it's as far out as it is...

Good point, it's funny how with all this modern stuff( tb's, ecu's, electrickery) it's easy to forget it's just a bunch of flashy carbs!

Never had a problem.
