VERY O/T: Armitage Shanks WC cistern lids (free)-- RETURNED TO MANUFACTURER

So do we, I'm afraid -- £1.50 per "bag", although what constitutes a bag is open to negotiation.  I took the old loo there separated into pan plus cistern.  They said "two bags-worth there, matey". When I asked what they would charge had the cistern still been connected to the pan, they replied "oh, just the one bag".  We settled on £2, as I recall.

John,

The personnel on the gate seem to apply the Councils rules on a very flexible basis.

I have a VW Transporter with lots of seats for our family vehicle. According to the council I need a permit for it to take my domestic refuse to the tip, as classed as a commercial vehicle in their eyes. Permit is valid for two years and has just expired - not asked for it once.

I cannot help thinking that most people just chuck 'chargeable' items in the dustbin!

Sorry to hijack your thread!

John, have you tried putting them on one of the online platforms for giving stuff away?  e.g. Freegle, Nextdoor and Freecycle.

I've been using eBay Classifieds here in Germany to dispose of things I don't need rather than taking them to the tip and things nearly always go - it just takes time.

# 8

They must be keen to encourage fly-tipping.

That's what I thought, it ended up in the same landfill whichever route it took. Also like # 4 I have to pay for a permit for 6 visits a year because I have a VW T6 so I was not happy, hence the drastic action with the grinder *banghead*

Our local tip no longer takes car parts of any sort even though it's an obvious way to recycle plastics and metals ... I now do the same, cut them up to fit in the wheelie bin which is plain crazy!

But with car parts, you should be able to get good money for it as metal scrap?  I remember Peter (6speedmanual) had a big pile of old car bits from various projects on his drive which he was going to get some good money for.

Re #14: I'm afraid so, Jonathan.

PS: I sent you a PM but the system was playing silly buggers and trashed it completely.  My second attempt was truncated to the point of rudeness, and the third may have got through.  (I strongly suspect my horrible Nokia Android phone.)
