Factory delays due to parts shortages

J here. I'm a US customer, future 7-er. Eventually. I hope.  Maybe.  Lol. Sad face.

June 1 2021 - Deposit and order (420R).

Just basically bought my place in the queue. I was thinking Nardo, but not settled on that color. SV with lowered floors, cause I'm tall.

Sept 16 2021 - The big payment

Sometime around here I changed to a wild Viola Parsifae CSR 420 b/c the build slot went from week 27 to week 8 in the 2022 queue (perhaps someone dropped out of a CSR slot ¯\_(ツ)_/¯).  Viola Parsifae is just an expensive way to say shiny metallic purple lol.

This almost doubled my total costs (and I also added a few whiz bang bits, SADEV etc) but the thought was I'd get my hands on a car (and quickly insert drivetrain) and be blatting much sooner than waiting on a kit that wouldn't even *start* until week 27.

May 5 2022 - Last payment (and separate payment to drivetrain vendor)

Been "waiting on a diff" a couple months now.  I've been expressly told that at least twice. I know it's a Sierra diff, so a little peculiar and not exactly off the shelf for Caterham (and apparently those shelves are sitting empty).

My dealer is very helpful but honestly once in a while I get miffed cause I've paid out a lotttttta cash (for me) and I don't mind waiting I just don't appreciate the murkiness of it all.

Also a lil pissed (at myself) that I doubled my outlay of $ in hopes of getting WAY more car than I need just so that I could run about in it this summer, and it's clear that ain't happening. It is becoming clear that I'll likely get this car just in time to pack it away for winter. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

I'll be happy when I get it. I know the folks at the factory are working VERY hard with what they have. I do think from a customer service standpoint they could just make a squeak or two and that would make them PROFOUNDLY more communicative than they seem to be, which would make customers PROFOUNDLY happier.

I was told June 24 that I am "waiting on a diff", which is what I was told almost two months ago.

(I also fully realize waiting longer for a toy car is NOT a real problem, and that lots of people in the world have lots of REAL problems, but I do want my lil car)

Having said all this, I've already in this process met and met online some very excellent people amongst the 7 loyal. It's been a great community so far, and will only get better once I'm ensconced in my 7 running the roads with others.

Lol anyway, thank you for coming to my pity party.  If anyone is still reading you can see more pics on IG at: @UglyFast

Just been told my build slot for 2022 Week 48 has been moved back by 5 weeks and will now be 2023 week 3.

In a way I'm glad my car wont be built over xmas, but means my car will not arrive in May 2023 rather than late March 2023 Thumb Down

Still waiting for mine to be delivered to Gatwick, and for the V5 document so plates can be made. The delay is now 8 weeks.

Obviously CC are under a lot of pressure due to circumstances which are mostly out of their control. Just hope they deliver a great car in the end !

8 weeks in total from the original quoted date? That's not too bad in the grand scheme of things. My wife's Mustang Mach E was delayed by about 12 weeks.

Ive waited years to be able to order this car in the spec I want so a few weeks here or there do not bother me too much. Especially in the current economic climate having a bit more time to be certain before I need to pay the second deposit is not a bad thing.

Yeah mine started it's build at end of Feb/beginning of March (build week 8) and had an estimated delivery date of mid May.

I guess 2 months delay isn't too bad, it's just annoying when the weather is so nice !

Its so depressing seeing their comms and attitude doesn't get any better.

They could hire a £25k a year administrator to send updates, build pics, and answer questions. It really would make bugger all difference to their pitiful profits but actually generate some good customer service.

Yeah build pics would definitely be a good idea, much better than an email saying 'sorry it's not ready yet'.

My car is still stuck in "final assembly and QA" stage. I guess it's been sat outside the factory every day for the last month or so, hopefully covered up as I spec'd it without a full hood..

I ordered a new Honda in march for delivery in Oct/Nov

No different to Caterham they are unable to get parts. the latest is a sensor system to open the boot

by flicking ones foot under the boot area. no big deal for me but they just cannot get the parts .

I went to Skoda, 12 months delivery , Kia  even longer

test

Hi Alan, our friends are still waiting for a Canadian built Honda CR-V that they ordered in Dec, no delivery date given to them at this time.
