I don't use eBay that much, but I thought that I knew how it worked.
I've sold an item to a buyer in the USA, to be shipped through the eBay Global Shipping Programme. Today I had this message from the buyer: 'I'm waiting on PayPal to Complete the Transfer, it says the money will get to you on January 30th before 9pm Pacific time.'
I've not come across this before. Any ideas as to what is going on? Am I being over suspicious?
Thanks,
Alex
I assume you haven't received any money into your PayPal account? In my experience, it should come through straight away, I don't know of any situations where PayPal holds money, or delays the transfer.

Fancy a club Nürburgring trip in 2023?
PayPal doesn't handle eBay payments now. As a buyer you can pay with PayPal, but it goes through eBay's payment system. The money won't come to my PayPal from the sale.
Sounds a bit dodgy, given the absence of PayPal from ebay transactions these days.
Hopefully you are waiting for payment (through some means or other) before shipping off to the Global Shipping Centre (or whatever it is called)?
James
I agree that it sounds dodgy. Nothing will be shipped until I have payment.
Since eBay stopped using PayPal and now use there own payment system it has changed.
You will get a message from eBay to tell you when the buyer has paid the money.
eBay now hold this money until the goods are received and there are no disputes. Normally around 14 days.
Was all new to me when I sold something back in December. eBay also deduct their selling fees from your payment.
Seemed to be a lot more complex and expensive to me.

Derek, I'm not sure about eBay holding the money for 14 days; I sold (auction) a piano on Sunday, the winner paid eBay on Monday and the money (less eBay fees) landed in my bank account from eBay yesterday. The piano hasn't been delivered or collected yet.

They also deduct seller fees from postage so be warned. I sold a fog light for a Toyota before Christmas. It sold for £1 and £3.35 postage. The 10% selling fee was applied to the total £4.35, meaning I received 56p, less listing fees leaving a total payout to me of 18p (which I had to wait 3 weeks for). I didn't mind because I just didn't want to bin a new part, but still, eBay is expensive.
