Latest Issue of Club Halfords Voucher - small admin problem

I know that Alan may slap my wrist for posting this but I have discussed the issue with him & he is investigating.

It appears that when the bar code is scanned or the number ref underneath inputted manually they are not recognised by 'the system'.

This could be a nation wide problem yet to be resolved. 

None the less the 10% discount is available if the person serving uses a generic code as was done at my branch.

I found the same re scanning the barcode - the till operative keyed in the code and that gave me the discount. Whether our actual code or a generic one I couldn't say.

The other 'potential' issue is presenting our club membership card - mine expired 31/12/21. I'm sure they are in the post!

I've never been asked for a membership card when using the L7C voucher or the Motorsport UK voucher.

How very dare you, Geoff!

Yes, there have now been five members who have reported a problem, though I've no idea if it is happening with all members' Halfords purchases or just some.  Halfords are looking into it.

The barcode of the voucher is exactly the same as last year's voucher, so in theory therre should be no problem about using last year's voucher.  the only thing Halfords should have changed is their expiry date, which was the end of last year, but has been extended to the end of this year.

Usually, all you should need to present to get your discount is the barcode itself.  You shouldn't need the rest of the voucher, nor your membership card.  Indeed, you should be able to present just the bar code on a smart phone for it to work.

 

If any member fails to get their discount, please RETAIN your receipt and, though I can't promise, I'll try to get the discount refunded retrospectively, though this is a bit more difficult since they updated their EPOS systems earlier last year.

As I said, Halfords are looking at it and I apologise to members for any inconvenience.

#1 Halfords staff informed me last year that the company had 'updated' discount scheme coupons and lots of them didn't work as they should anymore. This sounds like the issue is ongoing.

Strangely, some staff appeared to auto-deduct the discount by scanning, while others needed help manually working out a 10% discount, it may be a training issue Rofl

I did try mine at the end of last year and it didn't work.  I was buying a torch and did wonder if it came under the exclusions as a technology item so just paid the full amount.  Alan, I dropped you a mail on this.  Looks like the problem is wider than just me.

Used my new code today and it didn't work.  They did give me 10% off anyway.

I had the same problem yesterday (Halfords Grantham). Neither scanning or entering the code gave the discount. Eventually they found another way to put it in. They did tell me that a lot of their discounts are now being done via the App rather than a paper voucher.

Seems strange that the bar code is the same as last year. Maybe that is the sticking point ?

During my somewhat protracted period in post the annual voucher always had a new bar code...........

Halfords tell me the issue should be sorted out tomorrow, Monday 17th January.  A new voucher is being produced, and the EPOS system updated.

For info., all you should actually need, then the system is working, is the bar code, even if it's only an image on a smart phone.
